Okay, where to begin, 8 new Bosch injectors, new injector harness, checked the harness next to the alternator bracket, when I first replaced the injector the oring was almost completely gone, pulled the valve cover and the intake and exhaust valves were out of adjustment .008 but I can't imagine that would make the noise, haven't checked compression, in the rpm gauge it stumbles climbing and when you let off the pedal you can hear the knock clear as day, this afternoon I'm going to adjust the valves to spec and see what happens, really don't have time to pull it and build it I'm on the road all week every week, could it be a headgasket blowing compression? When you pull the plug on that injector the knock stops but it also changes the way the engine runs so it's not a dead cylinder, took a rifle cleaning rod and measured top and bottom dead center on multiple cylinders and not precisely accurate but no noticeable difference, help? Please? I'm starting to lose my mind working on this thing..

1. have you ice picked connector 2? I know you said you replaced the harness but I would just do it...
2. Check the grounds by the left front of the engine. Their are 3 of them by the block heater. My truck whipped my ass for just over a year with a phantom fuel knock. The lower ground had come loose on the block. Take all three off and clean the block and eyelets with a wire brush.
3. What is the balance rate doing on the injectors? Is one going out of whack anymore than the others?
4. Where/who did you get the injectors from?

Welcome to the forum.

Got the injectors from Lincoln diesel, I already Ice picked the new #2 harness and the balance rates are great except for one and 2, one is almost spot on opposite of 2, -3.5 on one and 3.5-4.0 on 2, I've got the valve covers and injectors back in now just hooking the lines up, not sure if I'm going to finish it tonight, I'm spent. I've had it down for 6 months I took the utility body off and put a regular dually bed on it, painted it, new rockets and cab corners, scraped the whole frame, I'm burnt out on this project, I forgot to mention I eliminated a fuel leak at the filter housing, put a nicktane filter housing on and use my frame rail pump to prime it, I'll check those grounds, I'm assuming the balance rates are opposing on one and two to compensate and make the engine run smoother?

I know .008 doesn't seem like a lot but I know it sure felt like a lot, my problem is I've been in it for to long and I'm letting my mind get the best of me

It has a entire engine harness or just the injector pigtails? Have you checked the wiring for 2 back to the ficm? Have you swapped ficms? No error codes? Is the truck tuned?

No error codes, it's got built transmission Idaho rob tunes, I haven't ohmed out the wires to the film, pulled the fender liner and saw the grounds you spoke of, with the valves adjusted its much quiter but still apparent there's an issue, I know compression needs to be addressed but I'm used to 6cta cummins and Fairbanks engines, the 400psi I just don't have the adapter or the compression gauge for it, i pulled the filler cap and it has literally no blow by, there is something I'm missing

Piston slap? That would probably be a lot more noticeable than what you have though.

Agree on recording it.

Have a tech 2 to kill that cylinder?

It's constant, have a solus, don't know if I can record with that, I think I can with efi live though, when I had the valve cover off earlier I tried to feel and listen for lateral play by reversing my ratchet and feeling, And like I said there is no blow by, I feel like it's still a fuel issue, maybe put a noid light on and see how it fires? Maybe it's inconsistent? It's not totally dead because when I kill the cylinder it's noticeable

It's a shitty video because it's late but that's the general noise, you can see the miss in the rpm gauge and in the balance rates, all 8 injectors are new remember

Is there a vibration along with it?It cleans up in the higher rpm and feels norm?I have the same thing going on after my build with new injectors as well but decided to roll with it and see what breaks. Its prob a fuel issue.

There is a vibration in the motor at idle and a slight surge at idle but back a long time ago I put a plug in the fuel rail, also just put in a new fpr, I've been toying with the idea of using my noid lights today and watching the injector pulse, the vibration/noise was 10x worse before I adjusted the valves, it calmed it down a bit but balance rates don't lie

No vibration but there's a lot more smoke then there used to be and a slight loss of power, it was noisy enough of a knock that I wouldn't drive it and yes new copper washers and orings, actually thought I might've torn an oring and that was the problem so I have 4 extra kits
