LLY injector

okay guys i bought another duramax and trying to sell my powerstroke....
well i got a steal bought this truck for 11k clean title crewcab, 4x4 93k miles. I did not look at the truck before i bought it since i bought it at dealer auction. I got it home fired it up and it idled just fine gave it a little rpm and it had a knock but when at idle no knock so i figured fuel knock, so started looking around and seen fuel leaking around the front driver side injector. there are no check engine lights on. I have included a picture of where it is leaking. Also another thing the glow plugs shut off within 3 seconds and thats when it was sitting out in the cold or in a warmed up shop over night.
The next i have noticed a small oil leak up by the radiator support on the passenger side, looked at the tranny lines nothing there and seen some oil around the turbo boot, From what i can tell this truck has been stock its whole life. Any help would be great full.

Glow plugs sound fine, they are very fast on my LLY as well.

I would check that fuel line for being loose. If the line feels tight then take it off and check the seats on the line, the injector, & the fuel rail for damage or misallignment. They need to be very tight, not sure on the tq. but I went till my snapon wrench was starting to flex the open end.

Maybe throw the vin up on here for Henry to check for you, see what all has been done to the truck.

thanks i will check them this weekend as i am out of town on work, and glad to hear the glow plugs sound fine i guess im used to my 7.3 taking for ever and on my old LBZ they were longer.

bad news : ( the injector is still leaking after i replaced the o ring, put a new fuel line on it. any more suggestions? maybe cracked injector?

You will have to post your Vin in the vin check section, Henry might not see this thread...

If your sure you got the line wicked tight, then could be a bad injector...

That or the injector isn't seated all the way. Mine had fuel puddling up on the front pass side injector, wasn't the fuel line leaking. The hold down had come lose and it was seeping by the copper ring under the injector. Pulled it out, cleaned the injector body and the bore, replaced the copper washer, and no more problems. If it's bad enough you may see coking on the injector body or bore.

well i pulled the the wrench as tight as i could. i will put a lilttle more pressure on it. and copper washer? do you have a picture of it? also here is the vin report

Here is a pic of the copper & o-ring. The copper goes on the tip & the o-ring about 3/4 of the way up the body. The copper in this pic had a piece of carbon stuck under it from when the dealership did my injectors. It allowed combustion gases to come up around the body and coke the injector into the bore. It took me 5 hours to get this injector out & a broken injector removal tool. When I put it back in I thought there is no way it will work as rough as I was on it. It had a leak that turned out to be the hard line Had to loosen it on the rail & injector top and then tighten the crap out of both, leak stopped.

okay thanks i will replace that copper ring and tighten the shit out of the line. and i have had my injector out once already and compared to that it looked clean. i was able to pull mine right out with my fingers.

well finally got some testing done today again. found out i was looking at the wrong injector. if i shut off injector number 7 the knock goes away when i bring the rpms up but still there at an idle when i shut off number 8 gone at an idle but there in higher rpms...any thoughts?

well i was using a snap on scanner just bought 3 months ago.
here is a picture of injector number 7 to me it looks plugged but im not a 100 % sure since im new to working on dsl. Im trying to get my friend to come down with his 05 lly and let me swap some injectors out but he has not came yet...he says it has bigger injectors in it. will that hurt anything to swap one out to see if i can find the injector?

OK, you CANNOT see the injector holes unless you are Eagle Eye. They are just a bit larger than a human hair, but not by much.

Unplug the injectors one by one until you find the cylinder that is knocking.

The oil seep by the lower passenger side intercooler boot is normal. Take off, clean, and reinstall with hair spray.

Well i unplugged each injector and could not find the one that was knocking. any more suggestions?

I also last night finally got ahold of an injector and placed it in injector number 7 and still a knock so the snap on scanner is wrong. lol

Thought i would update my thread, i havent had time to get on here and post an update. I have got the truck fixed and on the road. the Number 8 injector was my problem when i got it out there was no brass ring on the tip i couldnt see it down in the hole or anything. replaced that injector with a new and fired up and everything sounded great. I would liek to thank everyone for the help they provided me.
