After reading this Tread, I just out checking around the truck and notice that I have just about the same problem. Seems that the #1 Injector is giving some sort of problems. I have not have time yet to check balance rates, but just checking visually, 7 of the eight injector tops were dry with no build up or soot or anything around them. Then theres the #1 injector. I will try to take a picture but it looks difficult to get to with the FICM right there? Any advise or thoughts?

Edit:
Balance Rate in Park
1=-1.22
2=.15
3=-2.57
4=-4.67
5=2.39
6=3.39
7=.71
8=1.61

Pull the FICM. 3 bolts hold it in. Disconnect both banjo fittings and swing it out of the way. There's enough slack in the wire to put it on top of the alternator. Unbolt the FICM bracket. 5 bolts on that one. Be careful with the one holding the oil dipstick.

Once those two are out of the way, its pretty simple from there.

How did testing go today? is it still leaking?

wes did you try swapping the injectors with a good one that doesnt leak? IE, swap #3 with #1 or something and see if the leak follows the injector?

EFILive can ramp up the pressure at idle manually to try to look for a leak. Do this with extreme caution though because a 26,000psi stream of fuel through a pinhole leak can penetrate your skin. Use a piece of cardboard or something

i think 26k psi through a pinhole is enough to remove and appendage if i remember my Hurst hydraulics class correctly

Got it back in. Ran it up to 160mpa idle and had no leaks. Flogged it down the street, still dry as a bone.

Still not sure what caused it to leak. There was no garbage down the injector bore, the injector looked fine as did the hp line and return. Something I couldn't see I guess? :confused:

Anyway, back together and running fine. Hopefully my mileage will recover now. Burned a 1/4 tank in 60 miles.... that shits expensive enough without blowing it all over the freeway.

Thanks for all the help guys, was really hoping I wouldn't have to replace injector(s).

Real glad I didn't have to find this out the hard way... :D

So if I am looking at similar build up around this injector. I'm guessing a few hours of removing replacing the o ring and copper ring re install and all should be good?

Took about an hour to get it out, same to get it back in an check for leaks. If yours is just buildup, I don't that I'd be too concerned.... that can be coming from a lot of things that aren't affecting the performance of the engine. Mine was leaking a lot of fuel, enough I was worried about igniting it if I managed to get the manifolds hot enough (what it was dripping on). However, if you clean up the area showing the buildup and keep an eye on it for the next couple weeks, you might find whats causing it.

I like this idea.........what suggestions do you have for clean that area? Lots of shop towels!?

raw fuel means you have a dead cyl from loss of compression because of a failed copper(i doubt because you would have bigger problems than a fuel leak) or you have a leak somewhere from the rail to the injector or return line. you just need to remove all your brackets that are in the way and spray it down with parts cleaner really well and then start the truck and crank up the pressure with efi live and put your head in the wheel well and look for leaks.

hey white trash, i found your thread looking around cuz i have this exact same leak on my LBZ. but on #3. looks like it coming from under the hold down. Checked the returns, dried them and they are still dry now, so not the return. Did you just take the injector out and put it back in? or did you replace the oring and seal also?
