OK I am havin some real issues here and need some help/ ideas and any would be appreciated.
To start off i was driving yesterday from Eastern Sask to Alberta for work. The temp was about -30C. After driving for about 7 hours with no problems, i noticed a real lack of power, little or no throttle responseand smoking more than usual. So i figured, maybe starting to gel up. I pulled over, put in a triple dose of conditioner with anti-gel and topped off the fuel. I managed to make it about 10 miles to the next town with a GM dealer and decided to get it checked out because no real change. The tech put his scanner on and found some EGR codes relating to the EGR Valve and said that it was probably gummed up and needed to be cleaned. COOL, he did that then took it for a drive and all was well. When i got back to the dealership, the tech informed me that the ecm was WAAAYYYY behind on updates and that one of said updates would fix this problem. I tell him to go ahead and update. Later on he told me that he got about 80% of the update donethen it kicked him off and he can't get back into the ecm, the truck will not start now, and they say the ecm needs to be replaced, and my extended warranty is sending out an inspector because they think a chip corrupted the ecm and they don't wanna pay for it. They want 1700 buck to replace the ecm and if the warranty won't cover it, well lets just say ......neither can I!!!
Sorry for the long post but any suggestios or ideas. The truck is an 04.5 LLY,Afe stage 2, 4in turbo back,No chip or programmer....(at least not in the last year due to tranny troubles anyway), but was never abused, 6 in lift and 35 in rubber.

Thanks in advance
Jason

Worst comes to worst and they won't warranty your ECM you can buy one from Guy @ So Cal Diesel for around 400$... you can VERY easily R&R an ECM with minimal experience

What did you have no it before you started having transmission problems? It seems pretty crappy to me that their update installation caused a problem with the ECM, and they're making you pay to fix it.

fight em. speak to the service manager. The tech admitted it kicked him off. They were working on it when it was damaged simple as that.
Worse case like someone said earlier, buy an ECM from Guy, maybe he can program it as well, don't know. $400
Then call GM when your truck is up and running. This totally sucks, hope it turns out for the better.

If it locked up on him while he was updating it, they should replace it no if ands or buts. It's not a warranty issue IMO, it's the fact that the ECM was messed up while they were hooked up to it and tuning it. Stick to your story that it has never been tuned.

well here's a quick update...........the inspector that the warranty company had booked to come out never showed in the time frame they said (24 - 48 hours) so i gave them a call today in not a very good mood!! They have have now approved the claim and hopefully the truck will be up and runnin by tomorrow night. Thats a good thing and even better,........i didn't even have to curse at the guy to get something done!! Thanks for the responses, i think i may just give Guy a call and get one JIC!!

thats AWESOME!!! it is kinda safe insurance just in case the ECM goes bad. I have luckily had my laptop die on me during a flash like 5 times and it has given symptoms of a bad ECM but always works after a full flash;)
