...You have to remember though...the point/theory of ABS is NOT (neccessarilly) to stop in a shorter distance, its to allow you to maintain control in a hard braking situation so you can swerve to avoid an accident without skidding sideways or something. Most of the time if you just do straight line braking and are a really good driver who has experience with non-ABS vehicles, you can almost always stop in less straight line distance than ABS can.
...

Yup. They taught us this at the Bondurant Driving School. You still need to worry about the balance of the car (oversteer/understeer) but you can nail the brakes and still execute severe manuveurs with a good ABS system.

Yes, you can brake faster straight with ABS off, but you can't do what it does in the corners.

i have ran into objects becaus of abs.. any time the abs was active the pedal went to the floor period.. and the truck stops slowing... i absoloutly hate when a computor takes control at random times..

had a 04 grand am gt 04 winter hard packed snow and little ice.. moderate stop.. about half way thorugh the stop abs kicks in... rear starts fishtailing and around it comes. took out a fog light and part of the bump hiting a guard rail

unpluged the ABS did the same thing same day.. no problem go-figure

ex my truck had a guy panic stop in fornt of me for no apparrent reason.. rear axle hits a bump and losses traction while i was brakeing.. abs kicks in for goes to the floor and i rear end the car   were before i was on coursr to stop 5-10 feet form the said car

when the truck gets back up and running abs WILL be disabled/by-passed or what ever.

i wish i could make this stuff up but cant

At a racetrack, we had 3 gates we could go through. Right, Left, Center.

You approach it at 70 mph. All lights are green. At the last second, 1 or 2 lights go red. You must go to the green gate and stop immediately (coned).

With the ABS disabled, you cannot match the stopping distance while steering. The pros could come close, but they could not actually beat the ABS distances.

If I'm in a life-and-death situation, I'd slam on the brakes and steer the car. IF IT WAS ABS.

well then something is broken. the pedal should move to the floor, but then start to push back up at you.

would the e brake work it would stop you from rolling

That was my previous method, it got to be to much, launching with my left hand on the e brake release, right hand on the wheel and all befor the 60' mark i had to switch hands on the wheel while fighting torque steer, and shift to 4th. Not only was it a pain but it was getting to be unsafe, just using the line lock on the street i think its gonna work awesome for my launching needs, i doubt it would really benifit a auto truck at all as in a auto truck there is a foot for each pedal!!! It would help in doing some killer burn outs while saving your rear brakes though!!!!:D

LOL:rofl:!!!!

I actually put it that way because it moves the shifter about 6" closer to me, It makes shoving it into4th and 1st....i mean 6th a little bit less of a reach!!
