Lets say someone was in the market for new heads because this person is fairly certain the driver side head is cracked. said vehicle is a LLY, not turning high rpm, tows regularly and the guy/girl behind the wheel is retarded :roflmao:

Staying stock due to his/her budget reasons, who has decent priced well remanned heads? or even an updated casting if available?

not to rain on this guy/girls parade but its a little bit humorous that this guy/girl decided to convert to LLY to avoid LB7 injectors because that's what they are known for and decided to switch to a LLY which is known for headgasket problems and then blows a headgasket :roflmao:
that's all i have to say about that, carry on :D

I've found that good remanned heads for my LB7 run $1,200-1,400 from a shop I trust, ready to run. That includes surfacing, recess the valves as needed, pressure test, valve guides as needed, seals, etc. I imagine LLY heads would be very similar.

My brother and I were talking about putting L5P heads on his LB7, but when you add up the various required hardware, it is cheaper to just stick with reman heads, even though the bare L5P castings are shockingly cheap.

I have Wagler aluminum heads on my truck, and the total cost of ownership has actually been quite competitive. If you are reusing your stock valves and springs, grab their castings and bolt it all together. I went through a few SoCal Stage 1 LB7 heads, and even though the SoCal heads were "cheaper", by the time I add in the 3 sets of head gaskets, fludis, and incidentals, the Waglers were cheaper, ignoring labor! I suspect this person you're asking for will be doing their own labor, but doing it once sure beats doing it twice.

I would strongly suggest getting the Wagler castings if possible, and using your stock valves/springs to keep costs reasonable. They are a very well designed casting, and much stronger than stock Duramax heads, especially if you port a stock head. Plus, they flow quite well, even as-cast.

That said, it is unclear if Wagler is still making their aluminum castings anymore. I can't find anyone claiming they are in stock, or even the Brodix branded ones. It might be worth a phone call to Wagler to see.

honestly id love to L5P but the machining and little things here/there id run into will cause too much of a hinderance on me. My wife would kill or divorce me if i spent a month working on the truck and trying to piece together that setup.

im not against that if Jeremy still has/gets those. im running hamilton springs so id swap those on either head. bare casting is something ive highly considered.

I'm literally crying over here James, lol!!! Too bad the Edelbrock route isn't available yet because that would be a good way to go other than a completely stock replacement.

I have a pair of stock LBZ heads you could take to Larry's. Last set i had done there i think was $830 for new seals/guides/seats cut/flattened/vac tested.

Drill a couple holes for the clam shells. Not sure on the exhaust side. Either run L5P injectors or have the head cnc’d to accept your injectors

basically this. its the machining part to run LLY injectors i cant wait on.

Yeah thats usually what Larry charges me but Sean Jager has a couple heads hes dropping off to be checked today. If they check out, im going to go that route. just need to find him a good used LLY head

I still have a couple of heads available for core. No idea on true condition but I would imagine that at least one is ok/rebuildable.

so am i the only one that seem to find a lly-lmm head from edlebrock cause all i see is lb7 and LML lol

i appreciate that! but ive got a line a few heads here to use for rebuilds if i go that route. just trying to see whats out there now and if the "hearsay" on newer heads is true or not.

Edlebrock does in fact make them for the LLY application. See attachment for part number info.

I spoke with the sales rep at the NHRA Winter Nationals trying to get more info.

The castings are also HIP'd for added strength.

They flow 18% more than stock and have other features that are not listed. Because of how the valves are placed they will make more power ported than a stock head with the same CNC program run on them.

The valves are moved ever so slightly to improve flow but still use factory bridges and push rods.

They use 1 casting and machine to Spec for the 4 different specific engine application.

They are cast and rough machined right here in there San Jacinto casting facility. They get finished at there main facility Torrance

They are also In stock in there Local warehouse. :thumb:
