I've gotten 2.

The first one I got was a Longhorn on my right arm. I got it right after boot camp.

Also, a couple years ago I got a star with an American Flag in the middle of it. It is about 6-7". I got it in San Diego after I got off of deployment. My wife had no clue I was gonna get it and she was mad :mad:at me for a couple weeks until it grew on her.

Planning on getting another one when I get home. Not too sure what I'm gonna get though.

don't have pics, but i have one that i drew myself. one of my best friends committed suicide in high school, and wrote a letter asking me and 2 of my friends to be the pallbearers. we each drew our own tattoo afterwords in rememberance of him. each one of us has a cross on our right arm with our initials at the top, left, and right. our friend's initials are at the bottom of the cross. each cross is different. mine is more like an iron cross, another is a wooden cross, and the last one is a stone cross. also, we each have a banner with a different phrase on it. mine is Matthew 7:1 "Judge not least ye be judged". it's something i picked that best describes why he killed himself. he wasn't "socially accepted" by the majority crowd and often the butt of their jokes.

so, in my opinion, get a tattoo that has meaning behind it, and you will never regret it.

I have a "wedding ring" with my wife's name and a bracelet on the same left wrist with her name on the top. i have plans of several more with the first one being my kids written in blood over my heart. tats are cool and most have some sort of meaning to the individual but yes, its for a lifetime-unless within the first week you run your hand thru naptha and remove it:eek:. Had to pay $25 again to have it redone:mad: Wife was a smarta#@ and said "I thought the ring was permanent" so now it is.

Just remember. NEVER get one with a name on it unless it is yours, your kids, your MOM's, a family member's, or if you have been with them long enough that divorce is out of the question, your wife's name. Or a best friend but that depends (Like in LT1BRD's case). Girlfriends, boyfriends and friends can come and go, and sometimes wives. Sad fact of life.

Very true. except at my age, my resale value is not what it used to be so she wouldn't get much as a trade in:rofl: and she says the younger guys would have to go thru training so she might as well stick with the old dog.

imho a tattoo should be something that you know exactly what you want. not just want a tattoo and have no reason because down the road you might not want it.

when i graduated the fire academy and finished my probie year i wanted to get a tattoo. i had it drawn up and everything. i looked at the drawing everyday and told myself that if i still wanted it after one year i would go get it. and 4 years later after i got the drawing i still don't have it.

a little food for thought :)

Good advice Fireman
I saw an example of one that I thought was cool.
And I think I could live with.
It is a pair of cool looking Dice hanging on a string, like what we use to have hanging from our rear view mirrors in the 80s LOL
And on the dice were the names of your kids.

Myself... Being on marriage number 2... Tattooing my wife's name just wouldn't be a good idea. You just never know. Don't get me wrong... I luv her to pieces and I could see us together to the end. But I thought that with #1 also. But your kids are constant. You can't divorce your kids.
