whats the best way to learn how to build the allison? There is a place around here that offers allison accredited classes, would that be worth doing? I really want to learn how to build these things, dont mind ginny pigging on my tranny, just want some sort of knowledge before diving in head first. Any input is welcome.

Buy an ATSG manual and start in on it. If you're planning on going into business building them (not sure if that's what you have in mind or not), don't expect another builder to give you all their secrets, but if you are just wanting to build your own, buy a kit from a reputable builder and they should be happy to give you plenty of customer support.

Mechanics that I know have built both auto's and manuals. They say an auto is easier to build, but everything must be clean and in the right order. Take your time, and when in doubt, pull out the micrometer and the pictures. Never be afraid to post pictures and ask questions. I believe that Mike L will talk you through just about any problem that you may have.

Never done one, but want to try. Just can't do without my truck and don't have a garage or enclosed area that I could do it in.

I am considering taking a week off and driving out to see Mike for a tranny build on mine. Might even ask if he will let me watch just for my own knowledge.

The best anyone can do for you is show you the correct way to replace parts at this stage. This will get you by till the time you crank up the power. Then theory and past experience comes into play. Building the Alli for big hp is not an exact art and is still a work in progress. None of us have it figured out. Good luck.:D
