Leaking Oil Seal?

What's everyone opinion. I can not see an oil leak around the outside of the engine and I just went through over 2 quarts in a week (around 200-250 miles). 265k miles on the LB7 and when I replaced the hot pipe (developed a hole by the steering box) 15k ago there was a little oil in the bottom. So I pulled the intake and seen this.

In the process of digging in further

Haven't gotten that far. Dropped swivel into the valley and been fishing for a bit.

How much play in the wheel?

I'm getting about 0.03" with my dial indicator measuring at the nut on the compressor side. This is after running the engine for 5 minutes to move to the shop after sitting all night.

Easiest check for turbo compressor seal leakage in my opinion is to pull the boot off the turbo outlet and look in. Turbo should be basically dry considering lb7.. if it lost two quarts that fast you will have a puddle somewhere in the intercooler or piping.

If it has that much oil in the intake tract or turbo feed, you have the potential for a runaway engine, something you really don't want.....

Exactly why I am tearing into. On the compressor side, all I am seeing is coking and no slick coating but my exhaust tip has a slicker soot on it. Maybe its going to the exhaust. I did notice a bit of haze to it when I was sitting idling but I was suspecting it to be more due to the lb7 injectors. either that or I am an idiot and didn't read my stupid dipsticks right since they seem to drag oil up with them.:thumb:

anyone know the allowable tolerance for the play in the turbo??

A blocked crank case ventilation or high pressures due to excessive blow by will for sure also allow the turbo to leak oil past its seals due to drain tube pressurization. Pull oil cap after engine running to check for blow by pressure.

I should of updated this earlier but been busy with work and a torn hamstring. The #7 injector went, it was dark when I had checked the oil and missed the fuel on the dipstick. So the truck has been sitting and will be getting back in touch with LDS for some 45% over sticks and their 64mm turbo kit.
