ok, so ive been researching my diesels, and have found out good things about the powerstroke 6.4L, like the transmissions are really strong and can take a 310hp tune stock, and the engines are just a chip away from near 600hp/1190lbs of torque. what do you guys think of the f250s for a guy looking for his first diesel. is it one to consider to? i dont care if youre biased, i know where im at, lol, just gimme your opinion. :woott:

310 hp over stock might last a little longer on their stovk trans over an Allison, bit not for long.

Biased answers will be bountiful here.....this is a bunch of diehard dury guys here.

6.4s run good but they have egr problems and the fuel pump is weaker than a cp3 and a bitch to get to prob the only truck more expensive than a duramax to modify and there heavy as shit! All in all nice trucks wouldn't mind having one myself.

I just cant bring myself to believe the claims that Ive heard/read about what a stock 6.4 and its trans can handle.

In '09, the 6.4 was gonna be the greatest diesel ever. I showed up at obx with an LB7 with intake/exhaust/tune. It did 473 hp. The 6.4 that went after me did 580 hp. I ran 8.2x in the 1/8th and he ran 8.8x. When they hook to a sled their "superior" straight axle bounces like it's being dribbled. Other than not being all they are cracked up to be, I like them. My dad has one in an F450 service truck, and it's a nice ride. So buy one if you want, but don't cry when it doesn't make you king of the street or track.

I dont like them and gripe bout them all time, but my brother bought a bone stock 08. We put a 4" straight on it, s&b, and he sent his SCT to Innovative for their custom tunes. They told him 310 or whatever, blah, blah. We went dyno as soon as we got it done where my stock fuel/air and built trans LLY did 530/1030 and guess what. That 6.4 did 587/11xx! Believe me though, the trans wont take abuse at that power level long. And the higher tunes were terrible to drive, it was either idle or full bore ahead, smoke rolling, with hardly any throttle. Very batchy tuning.

duramax guy here. I hate to admit it, but I have always liked the exterior styling of the fords. They have a very aggressive looking front end, the gay step in the tailgate is rather amusing though.

Can't comment on the motor and trans as i've not driven the 6.4L

the thing im figureing out is, that with a 1000-2000 lb weight disadvantage (someone fill me in on the exact curb weights of 2500 2wd 4 door diesels if you can) it doesnt matter if you have 150 more horsepower on the trans, youre gonna tie the duramax at best. i assume the lbz fuel economy is better too. not alot of 6.4 guys claim 20mph highway but every lbz guy and his mamma claim to get that. mpgs are important to me too.

Get a 12v cummins if you want good mpg. My lbz has never done better then 17.4 most of the 20mpg claims are bs imo. I dont belive it unless I see it.

My LBZ averages 17/18 (slightly less in winter 16/17).
My best was 100% highway driving coming back from Merchant's spring fling in 07 with the cruise set at 65, and it got 24 mpg (but that was literally pump to pump).

If guys do a majority of highway without breaking the law too badly, I could see them getting 20. City driving or stop and go in town, I doubt it.
