Just wondering how bad this will affect the turbo and is it common to have a lil leakage.

did you blow a boot? usually common for a little oil to bypass the seal if you blow a boot off.

I cleaned my compressor housing when it was sitting in the garage. A few days later I had oil dripping out of it. I was told the seals need boost to fully block off oil movement??

Glad to hear wont runaway like that, goin to replace ic clamps, boots, and clean ic. If still has oil out of turbo, I will put the turbo off my spare motor. Ennis is coming soon :D

I stood back as a 2011 LML ran away on oil from a broken shaft in the turbo, customer installed their own cold air intake and had a silicone boot folded over into the intake..... turbo sucked it in and kaboom! By the time we had something big enough to block the air inlet off with it was too late. The big hunk of aluminum we found stays on the bench now just in case, fits all motors too lol.

I know a guy who had his Dmax run-away on oil when he blew his turbo at the track not long ago in Edmonton. And really, any turbo engine that doesn't have a positive air shut-off to kill it can run away on oil. Especially compression ignition engines.
Also yes, you need boost at higher oil pressures to keep the seals from allowing oil to pass. Simon had this issue when his modifyed oil pump had too high an oil pressure. Oil used to spray out of the hood stack at idle from the atmosphere turbo!

No turbo should have oil in the compressor housing though in normal conditions with nothing to cause it other than a seal failure. I'd start looking for aftermarket replacement turbo options if it were me.......
