They should be on any time you are in gear with the parking brake off. Except at night, they will shut off when the headlights are on to comply with laws in most states that limit how many forward lamps can be on.

What makes you think they aren't on while you drive?

Ok thanks that makes a lot of sense I'll check when I get home today

That would explain why I can't see them on because I put it in park and walk to the front, since they are supposed to work in drive only that's why I can't see them

The way I check for burned out bulbs is I pull in to a parking spot in front of a glass storefront and look at the reflection of my truck. Or creep on a car with a shiny paint job at an intersection

TX of course
I just put my truck it drive on a long straight road. Then hop out and check them. I think millennials call that car surfing.

Nah, car surfing is when you get out then climb on and ride. What you are describing is "ghost riding".

In college, we would "truck surf": you'd throw on motocross gear, climb in the bed of a pickup with a rope tied to the bed, stand up and hold on. The driver would try to throw you out of the truck. Aah, good times.
