The motor let go on Saturday pretty sure its a cracked piston smoking like a chimney out of the oil tube

Starting to weigh my options and leaning toward a Wagler StreetFighter short block

i had the heads rebuilt in 2022 and have only 5-6k on them so i can save money not buying a long block and already have head studs

i am leaving the power where it is now at about 600hp just want something to last that i wont have to worry about

Any thoughts or recommendations

Personally I think there are better engine builders out there than Wagler.

For your power goals you can use a set of LBZ or Callies compstar rods ($750 cheaper than Wagler and $780 cheaper than SoCal). The Callies rods are a solid choice up to 1000whp.

Pistons you have a few options. You can go with standard LB7, delipped LB7, Mahle Motorsport, or fingers cast (custom bowl Mahle Motorsport). We typically use Mahle motorsport as by the time I pay to have a brand new GM set of pistons delipped and skirts coated it isn't much more to buy the Mahle units.

At your power level a stock crank is fine, just make sure it has been thoroughly tested for cracks and straightness.

Is there a builder you would recommend?

I want to buy once cry once i dont want something that might be borderline and let go in the next few years and then i just lose interest and junk the truck

so i definitely want Mahle motorsports pistons and aftermarket stronger rods the crank is a grey area to me but i think a alternate fire camshaft might be a wise investment

also i am running fresh stock injectors should I look into some Larger % SAC nozzle injectors so the tune can be adjusted for less timing and pulse width

Personally I would choose DHD or SoCal for a built motor (we're dealers and friends with both). If you have an experienced Duramax machine shop near you they can easily handle the job and it'll likely save you some money as there won't be a core fee or as heavy (possibly no) shipping charges that way either.

@Chevy1925 , his profile looks like he's in your area. Are there any machine shops around you that you would recommend?
