So I have a LB7 stockish I'm wanting more power I want to get efi from Rob or duramaxtuner so I'm thinking about building my tranny with the alligator stage V my question is can me and my dad build it ourselfs? He was a mechanic for 30+ years I've heard that home built Allison's won't last past 15k miles thanks fellas

Well technically it will last. You can build a transmission strong enough to hold the power a non built motor will make. If you have bigger plans then get it built.

A proper stage 3 will hold the same or more than your stage 5.

And depending how hard you run a built ally won't last forever either

If you or your dad have never done an automatic trans. Before I'd suggest going to someone who has the experience close to you. Also I'd choose a different kit. There's a lot better "kits" out there.

If you want to do it yourself, I'd buy a kit from Suncoast. Talk to Andrew. Just do your research first and be prepared to make some phone calls for tech advice. If your father has rebuilt auto's before and you guys have all of the necessary tools you'll be fine. Don't expect to throw 1000hp at it, but I don't think that's what you had in mind.
