Need any information on doing an lb7 to LLY swap. I understand that being a 02 is going to be more of a issue then if it was an 03. but can it be done without a lot of wire splicing

are you sure on the wiring? i thought the 03+ was plug and play pretty much but the 01 02 was a different story, not arguing with you just wanting to make sure of what i'll be getting into.

Russ, do you use the LB7 or LLY ECM? Will the VVT still work on the LLY in an 01-02?

I'll be damn tempted to go this route when my injectors take a dump on my 02!

Do you have any of the 01/02 lly conversion trucks with many miles? Say 50k, 75k 100k miles or more?

I'm curious how well the lly injectors last over time with them being driven by way more volts than normal?

I've got quite a few including a 4500 without issues. Not sure how many miles they have on them now, I'm only in contact with one of the owners. Ive helped 4-5 others through their own swaps also, but no milage reports. The 4500 is a backhoe company and used daily and heavy. I would think that would be the first to show any issues. Funny thing, it didn't like the tuning from the 2500 trucks, we had to start from scratch again. Kinda pissed me off lol.

I doubt the voltage difference is much of an issue. I know on fords we used to solder a different resistor into the Injector drive module and take it from a 90 volt up to a 140 volt output and on 6.0's you can go from a 48 to a 58 volt. It actually makes them run better and smoother.

The reason I mentioned it was because I read where someone recently posted that the main issue causing the LB7 injectors to fail could be heat (constantly soaked with hot oil under the valve cover and higher voltage) and so I was curious if the higher voltage might create more heat in the lly injectors and also make them fail at a higher rate.

According to my ties in the diesel injection business, the lly isn't far behind the lb7 in number of failed sets.... they're higher voltage than lbz and likewise, have more failures than lbz/lmm. Same story with lb7, they're higher voltage and oil soaked and just so happen to have more failures than all the others, as we all are aware of.

The good thing is, even if/when the lly injectors fail, they're sooo much easier to swap out compared to the lb7.

Just thinking out loud here.

This is why I had Russ put in an 06 LLY in my truck. Was going on my 4th set of injectors and the thought of having to do it again and not knowing how long they would last. When one goes out, if and when, it'll be so much easier.:D
