Hey guys, I'm new to this fourm. This is my first post. I have a 2004 LB7that I've had for over a year. I bought it from a close friend that was in OG owner. It has 170xxx miles on her. I haven't had a single problem with it since purchasing it. Nothing aftermarket outside of a 6" lift, air bags, fuel cell, upgraded sound system subs and dvd player, banks air ram intake, and the rest is cosmetic. So here's my issue:

I went out this past Saturday to start the truck and the batteries were dead so I removed them and put them on a slow charge. Both batteries were able to charge but up to 80 and 90% charged. I figured it should still start. Well after hooking up the batteries, I cranked it over. The truck started and turned off right after on its own. So I tried it again, same results. Both batteries are just over 2 years old. I noticed one battery leaked a bunch of acid out so I refilled it with distilled water. So is it the batteries? What would cause the batteries to drain and leak acid out? I'm new to working on diesels. I could perform all the standard maintenance and that's about it. The truck has a stock alarm which I'm thinking that might be part of the issue. I've tried to reprogram the alarm by turning the key in the on position, leaving it for 10 minutes, turning it off for 15 seconds and repeatingthe process 3 timed like I've read some other members have done in the past but still no luck just the same results as before. The truck ran fine a few days before prior to being parked. Also, the dome lights don't go on when the door is opened and I can't set the alarm.

I don't drive the truck much except once or twice a week but I need it up and running soon. Much appreciation!

Bad batteries can cause a host of problems in these trucks, but a leaking one could be sign of something else.

Is the security light on?
Have you double checked all the fuses underhood?

Might want to find out where the drain was coming from, too.

Have you tried locking and unlucking the doors with the key. I know the factory alarm should turn off with the ignition start, but always worth a shot.

Check the cigarette lighter fuse

Does the padlock come on after it dies?

Have you tried priming?

I would get the batteries load tested. I've never had good luck with putting water in a battery although I know it does work (sometimes).

+1 on testing the batteries. Just having weak or low power batteries can cause issues. ~2 years old most go out anyways. I say most referring to another thread on here where average battery life was 2-3 years.

I'm going to take the batteries in to have them tested. It appears my DVD unit had a short-circuit which I found a blown fuse and the wife said she walked by the truck and it sounded like the subs were making noise. Lol that was a week ago and she forgot to mention that right away. So I may have found the culprit. :woott: fingers crossed. When I went to charge the batteries, it showed them being 8% charged. Well see...
