LB7 Moded Turbo Intake Horns

where is brayden from fleece performance in all of this going on? he was the first to mod these intake horns. i talked to brayden on doing my intake horn like 6-8 months ago when he started building the lb7 fleece cheetah turbos; he was charging $50 a piece. so...... looks like brayden was the first to do these bored-out intake horns, anybody after that is making money off his idea:eek: i didnt want to say anything, but if people are claiming to innovate something; the truth needs to be told

I didn't see any posts on this and wasn't enlightened. I know ED from N.C. was the first that I relized did this, and it was a several years ago before Braden was doing anything besides working for Allison (ED got a used IHI compressor housing from me for the job). However it wasn't advertised back then either. I'm sure the list would go on from here. However, I started trying to bring this upgrade to folks years after I should have. No one steped forward though from any research I found. This is why I never said anything about being the innovator of it. Just tryed to bring it to the market when others hadn't yet as a seperate mod (or an advertised available mod for that matter). Yes, let the truth come out.

i havent been here long so i know when i start here you were not but i see now you are.

Michael was one of the first guys who ventured into modding these trucks. Back in 2004, he was the only one making quite a few perf items.

We have these courtesy of his innovating:

tierod sleeves
center link
boost manifold

those are just the things I can think of off the top of my head. I know theres more.

I believe Jeff Toman said he modded the horn on his turbo a few years back, too....but never told anyone.

I have a fixture and CNC program to do them, but honestly I haven't pushed them too much. It was a necessity to open up the horn ID when using a 68mm inducer charger. I have done a few of them for non Cheetah trucks but they were on trucks that we had in the shop.

I wouldn't say that I was the innovator here though.. I never really looked hard at optimizing the LB7 until the LB7 Cheetah.

SD, you have a better memory than I do:D. That has been a long time!
I did this mod (for the same reason as Brayden.........out of need due to a 66mm compressor wheel) to support the modified IHI.
I never thought about marketing it at the time because the deal fell-thru with the turbo shop on the modded IHI.
We only made one.....and then the B.D. turbo's appeared on the market........and that-was-that.
My experience with the modded horn is great!.....but it doesn't apply to this discussion since it was on a 'non-stock' IHI.
GOOD PRODUCT MICHAEL!!!.......keep-up the good work, my friend!
Later, Ed.

what you did using his pictures was wrong but it doesnt seem like when you used them you were trying to sell your horns with them.

use your own pictures and i see no reason that you cant mod as many intake horns as you want.

we need competition with products from different people. or else we would all be driving the same exact thing, using the same aftermarket lift pumps etc.

EXACTLY! but greed and politics have gotten to alot of people in this diesel sport, making it very hard for the average joe to buy parts or kits, or services for this sport we are in. i have to say that this crap(bs politics of "who made it first and who copied who") is going on with people in the powerstroke and duramax performance industry only! alot less with the cummins guys; thats why they(cummins) have progressed more than we(dmax) guys have

I don't agree with the above statement. We as a duramax community went really far really fast when everyone was on dieselplace. I think since then things have progressed slowly and will continue to slow down.

I am really waiting for the new duramax so the innovation can become fresh again and we can get going again as a duramax community.

We simply have too many forums for the duramax community to unite again I think.

things progressed really fast when efi live came out.... its since fallen on its face in the way of built motors big singles and twin turbos because everything is "top secret"

when in my opinion share it with everyone.... they will likely come up with better ideas to help make you faster as well.... but that doesn't seem to be the case with the dmax group

Talking about the copying thing is easy to say when your not the one it's happening to. My point earlier in case it wasn't caught was, we need the next steps taken to ADVANCE our sport. "What's the next item that we need to help us?" To many people focus on stuff we already have! Anyone able to acuse me of price gouging (rediculously priced), or running it way up so people cant afford it when I have a item available that no one else makes (for the moment)? I love more than most everything else is helping bring some enterainment to others and helping out (making a differance). For this I am guilty. What's happening now is what is called simply as "Our Modern Economy" like it or not. Our industries have disappeared, and it has effected us ALL in one way or another and it will be getting worse before it gets better unfortunately. Were at the same place we were during the industrial revolution like it or not. China has taken the manufacturing industry by storm, and it's cut alot of companies here out. They try to compeat with each other here and find out that they can't stay afloat with the meager prices there charging and go out of business. In the mean time the others that were doing well before are now gone because the other little guys were trying to keep ahead and put them out of business because of that! Lots of folks are out of jobs and cant afford much = less spending = others having to charge more to pay bills and lose there butts because of no one buying = there out of business. Now China steps in full force. Guess what? Industries in that market is gone. Businesses MUST comform to the new evolving system that is being put in to place as we speak (type). And that my friends is called progressing into a new era just like we did during the industial revolution. Some wont make it (I'm very sorry to say). Some will come out shining with a new way to do things and new approches to get were they want to be. Inevitably, most will need to have there own nitch. Copying Joe Blow isn't it. You will need to be an innovator in your area of interest and need, because following won't wait for anyone. So sorry for O/T (but directed at this point). Just thinking out loud.

the real truth of progression is to go further with performance the average guy doesnt have 10k for a built motor . that is the wall that was hit . do people ever think that the reason dmax parts are more expensive than cummins parts is because the are harder and more time consuming to build and many more electronics envolved . i will not support companies that rip off other peoples idea's , that is the real reason people arent pushing hard to develope new products is because they do all the hard work and research so the next guy can sell it cheaper after all the r&d is done and put the guy who invented the product out of buisness .

hey, mike i agree with you; the price gouging and other comments about advancements was not directed toward you, but directed to the other people(they know who they are) that have caused a shitstorm on every public dmax forum about whos product is best, whose product was copied by who and, whose tuning is better than whos. michael, your product will speak for itself and if you dont get wrapped up in the whole "who copied who " bit, you will have way more people buy from you and have respect for you, because otherwise you will be another chapter in history that everyone will forget. i as a person will never forget what a great person you are; you've helped me on the phone when i decided to take a cp3 apart and the thrust washers decided to shift. anyways you talked me through it and got er done. ive bought a sd manifold from you and if my piece of crap crankitup centerlink craps out on me; i will be ordering that mega thick centerlink you had talked about from you. anyways sorry for all the run on sentences.
