I expect you'll find being properly balanced plays a bigger part then most would think.;) The water pump and the engine.

Are the LB7/LLY water pumps that are letting go genuine GM or are they aftermarket pumps as well? I know I have had problems with aftermarket(autozone and advance) water pumps in other applications here lately. I put a genuine AC DELCO from GM in my BURB, but then again I'm only running around 400HP to the wheels on mine(can't afford to play in the big boy HP league).

I'm with THEFIRM here, I installed an LBZ on my LLY simply because of failure frequency whether stock or built the LBZ's last longer, plus the pumps better capacity and lighter impeller are a plus. my .02

I understand how a rotating assembly is balanced, but how do you balance the water pump?

If it's zero balanced at the factory, adding weld, pinning, keywaying, etc must all throw it off balance...

Will the LBZ bolt right in place of a LLY pump without modification? I need to change my pump currently.

Well we tried about all the fixes available up until the end of last year and went to an electric pump. End of problem. Another nice thing is you can keep the pump on and circulate the water when you are between passes on the strip and help cool it much quicker.:thumb:

Just had to modify one of the top mount hole locations on the pump (cut and drill only) and heat and lube up the LLY radiator hose to install on the larger inlet and that was it. So far so good!

Electric is the go for race only applications for sure.

my stock pump lasted a month at 710 hp, the chance of it failing away from home, and not being an easy side of the road swap led me to go straight for the electric. year and a half later still going strong with no issues. i was all set with trial and error that i've already seen dustin and a few others go through

So you are saying you lunched the OE LBZ pump?

It wont bolt direct but if you would like i could get you fixed up.

The "customized" pump that Tony did for me is on and held up all day with my thrashing.

In the 11th hr I made a major breakthrough with my tuning so wil luck I won't cross 4,000rpm much if at all.

Things are finally starting to come together...

Love my electric pump....wouldn't trade it for anything. I did drill my tstats and I run a 30psi cap now too. I run my truck without any fans on most of the time now, and it has stayed below 210 water temp and oil temps go to 220 only on wot runs
