took mine to gm for ticking noise they removed transmission thought noise was coming from cracked flex plate! "not" they set valve lash on #5,#7 cylinder noise would go away, they were not sure what the problem was... i took my truck back home and removed pass side head found lifter guide hold down retainer bolt(6m) broke then lifter guides floated off lifters, lifters rotated in bore ruined cam, knurled bottom of lifters so much that i couldnt pull lifters out had to pull drivers side head pull lifters out (used small vise grip to hold #5,#7 lifters from dropping down) remove camshaft feed mig wire(.030) down thru lifter oil port then fish out to front of engine thru camshaft bore, then remove vise grip drop lifters thru bottom fish out! wow what a job here is a few pics will add more! dang need 10 posts or more to post pics! anyways this is another issue that may arise for lb7 owners!

Old trick a buddy taught me when he didn't break in his solid lifter cam very well. He mushroomed the lifters so much that they couldn't be pulled out. To remove them, he found a piece of aluminum siding, trimmed it for width and length such that when he rolled it up into a trough, it would slide in the camshaft bore (think forming a U shape). Then, all he did was drive the lifters back down and they would land in the trough. Worked rather well and kept from having to pull the engine or remove the oil pan.

was lookin at that but the roller lifter in the dmax is so long u have to get the crank set just right(so connecting rods are at lowest possible to drop lifters down far enough even then they just barely clear the connecting rods on the crank! will get my posts up to show pics with the mig wire! actually worked very well! but thanks for the siding tip!:thumb:
