That sucks! I didn't know. Are you hanging in there?

I need to pay my truck off thats all I really want if the $hit hits the fan. I don't have any kids so that makes it not as bad

It's a struggle..

That's the big reason for no more truck events for me this year. A couple hundred bucks spent on entry fees can go a ways..can't really risk breakage either..:)

the fire dept in the next city over from us laid off 38 guys last night. my dept is trying to get the mayor to approve an early retirement incentive so they don't have to lay anyone off. if they do it's going to be about 54 guys for us, i'm number 21 :(. luckily i still have my mechanic job for my days off and were busy over there.

The only work our company has is a wolkswagen plant being built. Everything else has been postponed, canceled or out of business. Not a great time to be in construction.

No lay offs yet, but our tanks and bins are filling up. Not getting the empty rail cars that we used to, we used to get about 25-30 per week just to keep our levels down, this week we got 5. Nobody is ordering our product anymore, we had to slow down this morning by about 25%. They are currently training me in a new area of the plant, so hopefully that means they plan on keeping me around. The company I work for is based in St. Louis. I'm worried. :( Good luck to all of you guys.

I'm not worried about my job but my wife has been out of work since April of 08'. She won't go to work for $7.50 and hour after where she was at and I don't blame her. The time off is good for her. It gives her time to do other things.;)

That is nothing more than shitty timing. Hope it all works out OK.

I survived the layoff earlier this month. My company has laid off 115 out of 300 or so people. We have this coming week off and another week off in March and all Fridays from now until who knows when off, all unpaid. They were also nice enough to double the cost of our health ins. and freeze all of our vacation time.

I seemed to have lucked out and not get cut. My comission checks are not even close to what they were. They cut our hours back and NO over time at all. It sucks BUT...............

I just got hired at a Naval Shipyard. I'm going to be back on the government cheese again and can't wait to start. With my expierence, they gave me a darn good hourly wage. I don't have a hour commute one way and don't have to pay for a bridge toll anymore either. My wife got a job at a state ran dental clinc also. She will start next week. She was forced to take a pay cut on the hour but it will work out to be the same monthly income because of the hours she wasn't getting at the old office. It has taken a long time for both of us to get these new jobs and now we can finally make some money again.

Well, so far I think Im ok. Im a BMW tech at an independant shop. Were not to big, 6 employees, 5 techs, 1 receptionist. Our former parts manager quit and took his daughter with him and honestly, good ridance! My boss, the biz owner, did backflips for them and they stared the gift horse in the mouth! So, one of our techs has pretty well taken over parts dept. and still does some work. Me and two other guys are factory trained techs/refugees of our chitty local BMW dealership, even our boss was a tech there years ago! They suck! Bad! Which is great for us! We get there customers and there techs, they only have 1 good one left! Just the other day we had a lady with an X5 needing new brakes all the way around....Well its covered under her still present warrenty, no charge! Over $600 in parts and labor and she refused to let the dealer do it! She rather paied us! Whats that say for the stealership! Its good having a niche biz with a large customer base and little competition! BUT, we run out of Wichita, KS....If ya didn't know, were the "air capitol of the world" Boeing, Cessna, Spirit, Hawker-Beechcraft, Airbus, Bombardier, etc. Tons of smaller aircraft manufacturing business's too. As you might expect, aircraft is in the sh!tter right now, over 6000 people here alone layed-off from the big companys alone not counting smaller ones, there all interconnected, one feeds the other...... Well, Alot of our customers work in aircraft, kinda hard to fix and maintain that expensive BMW with no job! Sure alot will reap unemployment and such but still...not good....only gonna get worse before better:(

So THAT does worry me! Hope it dosnt affect us to severly. If it should, hope seinority works, ive been there alot longer than the other guys exept for our tech runnin parts dept. but hes like a brother to my boss anyhow. One guy we just last week! Hope is all im my thoughts!

One things for certain guys...were all a part of history now... When we read about the great depression of the past, much like it, were in one today, only the chapter has been finished yet....

well at my work they just dropped my whole shift (weekend day shift 6am to 630pm Friday Saturday Sunday) and did hired outside the company for about a 1/3 of the jobs inside so i had to pick on day shift or night shift. i really wanted day shift but got night shift oh well i am just glad to have a job. the crazy thing is that they cut all of these jobs and then give us a pretty good raise and one every 6 months till get up to the new standard pay level oh well i will take it

I work for Caterpillar and most have seen what they have done across the board. Our branch laid off 50% of the mechanics just this last tuesday:( But I have been informed unless business picks back up I will be let go in May:(
