Looking at a lathe for the shop. Hoping to find some info. I took a couple pics. Anyone with any knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

just run it,see if it has any vibrations.turn the head over by hand and feel for any tight spots on the bearings.maybe put a dial indicator on head to make sure its true.
what's the biggest thing you want to turn,,thats a big factor on things.

What are you going to use it for? Big stuff? Long stuff? Precision stuff? Threading stuff? Making tapered stuff? Many options, many prices. You get what you pay for. The "hobby latehs " can be good for just making simple things and can do a decent job if you know their limitations. If I were looking for a good all around lathe, I would get a Hardinge or an old Sidney/Monarch ship lathe....

Main use will be for machining backing plates and such from auto trans. I am sure I will use it for more once I have a better feel for it. Comes with phase converter, not for sure how much tooling will come with it though. $700 seem fair enough?

I don't see how you could go wrong for 700 bucks. Germans know how to build stuff to last. It looks to be in very good condition.

Did you buy it? You can turn a long bar, and measure for taper from one end to the other. That will tell you if the spindle is square. I'm not familiar with that brand. Monarch or old Mori's are really really nice.

Not yet. Still waiting on them to get settled in their new shop, and get the old one cleaned out enough, where we can get to it
