Largest stock turbo?

Guys, we are looking at going to a 2.5" inducer class for our pulling organization. We want to make sure that all trucks with a stock turbo can pull. Does anyone know of a stock turbo that comes on any 1 ton or less pickup from any domestic manufacturer that would not fit a 2.55" plug? How about the newer Ford 6.4L sequential turbo?

Thanks

Why not just run a stock turbo for the stock turbo class?

Contact brayden he will fix you up with a turbo that will pass work stock

I don't think he was asking how to cheat and beat a bunch of guys with stock turbos. He is involved with the rule making and wants to make sure that 2.5 is big enough that it won't rule anyone out.

To Chris:

If you guys are wanting it to be a stock turbo class need to keep the rules saying stock turbo. If you put a size on it than guys will be getting modded turbos to get up to 2.5 compressors or they'll be going with 2.8 compressors (71.5mm Cheetah) with a compressor cover that passes the 2.55 test. Or if it doesn't say stock appearing they will be getting S400s built with 2.5 covers. When you start getting into all that the guys with stock turbos no longer have a class to compete in and don't have any fun or a chance at winning (although many stock DMax's could still hold their own). IMO the stock class should be stock turbo single CP3. Guys that modify or replace their charger should step into the next class up.

I understand what your saying but the dodge guys started crying because they cant get the horse power out of there stock chargers as a duramax can so they changed the rules to stock appearing turbo so they upgraded and so did we it didnt change any competition wise it pretty much stayed the same because everybody upgraded only thing it hurt was that it kept the weekend warriors from having a chance to win any $ but I dont care what class you pull in 9 times out of 10 the guy with the most money win anyways

Typically out here guys that win the stock class alot get bored and pull against bigger guys. Then they get tired of getting beat there and do the upgrades to get them to the top of that class. Then they get bored and step up again. I hate seeing pulls where guys that don't want to dump a bunch of money in their truck can't compete, even if it's just for a trophy and bragging rights. Basic bolt ons and a built trans (stock will actually survive alot of pulls at 500+hp, it's the street that kills them) should be it in the stock class, charge a hook fee and give out a trophy or small cash prize. Those hook fees pay the bills so that there is money for the bigger classes to have nicer pay outs. Then have a 2.6 class for the guys with modded turbos and small turbo upgrades to compete in. I've never understood why so many people want to be the best of the worst instead of stepping up and competing with the other trucks on their level - I guess it's because the stock class pays decent some places and they would rather go for the guaranteed win than be fair. Like I've said about the Super Street NHRDA class "It's like training for the UFC then picking fights in a high school parking lot". What does it prove for you to dump a bunch of money in your truck to out pull guys with just a tuner and exhaust - if you want to show that you can mod your truck and that it's got something to prove step up and play with the guys with similar mods.

Travis (BullFrogJohnson) has won or placed in a lot of pulls somewhat close to me and really doesn't have much in his truck, espeicially compared to the Scheid built dodges that he's beat.

It's extremely hard to tech a stock appearing class, and if you limit to 2.5" bore then you're running against S465's in a work stock type class..

Fuel is about the only way to limit these trucks, i.e. single pump vs dual etc, but there are plenty of mod'd single pumps that will get you to 700hp so we're at the same point again.

But agian what is the point of being able to brag that you have the baddest "stock" truck around when everyone knows you have a bunch of upgrades done to it?

at least one org. in KY (Battle of Bluegrass) has apparently changed their work stock class to a true stock turbo. There will be a pre-season meeting where all turbos will be teched front to back against factory specs and then tagged if it passes insp. If you show up to hook on a whim, you get one time to hook with them without having your turbo fully teched. Before you hook with them a second time, it has to have been teched n tagged. Also, if, on your first hook, you beat the regularly competitive trucks by 10+ft, turbo has to be fully teched prior to receiving payout. I'm not positive on that last part, but the rest is pretty accurate I think.

I think that's the appropriate way to have the work stock class. Is it a PITA to have to get your stock turbo truck teched so thoroughly? Sure it is but around here guys take even the work stock class seriously and it'll put an end to the bickering about who has a stock charger or a cheetah-type charger. That is until whiners start claiming so-n-so paid off the tech guy to let his "special" charger through the tech. Then you still have bickering.

I was that guy that had a ppe standard tuner and a fass then i upgraded to transgo shift kit and efi live and I was in high cotton I was so happy to dyno 517 horse with just tunning and a lift pump and during september I went to the bank and borrowed the money to build my trans, get a turbo and a set of injectors I can now compete with these Kentucky trucks because all of them are extreamly competitive and strong, I go to about every local pull but myself ill only pull 5 to 6 times a year out of about 55 pulls im not trying to be the best I dont brag about my truck hell mine is a piss hole in the snow compared to yours, I just wanted to able to hook to the sled and know that I didnt bring a knife to a gun fight and my reward out of all of these is seeing the people that wanted the work stock class rule changed still get there ass kicked by somebody who drove there truck to the pull when they pull every single event.

I'm not knocking you personally. My point is that it shouldn't take a turbo and injectors to compete in a "stock class". The rules should be changed (more like reverted to what they used to me) to allow only stock turbos and leave the stock class to the stock trucks. As a diesel performance shop I guess I should be hoping for the opposite, but I like to see the average diesel owner get to have a good time too.
