I want to buy a laptop just for tunning. Not looking to buy the best computer out there but want to get the best out of efi live. The only thing it will be used for is tunning. Suggestions?

thanks

yeah i definitely agree on buying a decent laptop. big believer in you get what you pay for. As for size i was thinking like 14" i dont want something to big but if i have to use a netbook for more then a few minutes i wanna throw it. there just to hard to use for long periods of time

i use a netbook from acer, the "aspire one." works great for tuning and surfing the diesel forums. i got mine from best buy for like 250 bucks new. i think you can still get them from walmart, and for just a lil cheaper too.

The netbooks are just to small IMO and the bigger ones ain't much more$$. My friend has had great luck with the laptops he has pick up from pawn shops if you want to save some more.

I have an ASUS netbook, bought for my deployment, and I love it. 6hr battery life and its light and fast and has more than enough memory for me. I paid 450 for it with all the options at the time. I won't replace it anytime soon I hope, next purchase might be an Apple desktop.

My girlfriend just bought an ASUS yesterday, real nice computer I may buy a netbook soon, this bulky Dell laptop is killing me! I like the Apple Macbooks but they are pricey!!!

A MacBook is pricey, but you will buy 3 or 4 pc laptops comparatively. And your comparing a thorobred to a jackass. all I own in Mac and will never go back to PC

You can! However, what you have to do is split the harddrive with an application called bootcamp and install windows os. That is the only way you can run Windows on a Mac because the OSs are completely different, but can be done easily.

My Macbook Pro already died. It was less than 2 years old, and treated well. Good news is Apple fixed it quickly. It was a major HDD failure.

Regardless, the MBP is the cheapest "armored" notebook, at about $1200. It has an all metal enclosure and stout keyboard, with a very large trackpad. Not a bad choice.

Anyhow, EFILive is not a heavy duty application. Any new notebook will run it efficiently. I would look for:

High res screen (1920 if possible) so you can see more of the tables.
Bright screen.
Large battery/high battery life.
Lots of USB ports. You never know when you'll have to have a USB stick, a phone, EFILive, etc, all plugged in at once.

Look on CL and get used one. I picked up a really nice HP/Compaq nc6230 for 200 bucks. Has 3 USB ports, is WiFi ready and came with a docking station.

I use a mac for all my other stuff. Really pricey but well worth the money. I had windows on it at one point with bootcamp and the hard drive split but it never really seemed to work right for me so i got rid of it. Really wish efi live would work on apple OS but i think it will be fine if i use the new laptop just for tunning.

I've used parallels on MAC instead of bootcamp with good success for PC apps. I've done very little with EFI Live on this format but have heard of others having success using this with Vista.

Yup, Parallels is another application to use on setting up Windows on a Mac. But, it's another item to purchase, as opposed to using what is part of the Mac OS anywY with Bootcamp.
