Completely overlooked his note on being 2023.

SunCoast doesn't offer a cat 4 for 10L1000 which is the transmission you have. Even then, SunCoast is not near the forefront of built units these days. You do not have an Allison 1000/2000 LCT which is where I am guessing you're Cat 4/950hp+ is coming from. Being a 10 speed, there is NO built 10L that will hold your goals as I am typing this post.

This is the best 10L SunCoast offers which is a cat 3.

Cat 3 Suncoast it is then - Im still going down this path regardless

I would look into re gearing the truck if this is the path you are choosing. Not sure what is popular now with it being a 10 speed. Maybe 4.10s?

Boys, 10 speed is another animal. I wouldnt change from the 3.42’s. My 2020 is on 37’s and i would not want to regear. They come with 34.5” tires stock and the zr2 on 35’s is still a 3.42’s. I would at max change to 3.73 but thats not worth the change imho. If you did, that fucker will be shifting so much youd hate it.

Personally I’d want a 6 speed allison. The 10 speed will be slower than a 6 speed in a drag race, assuming equal mods. Towing a heavy load, different story

You will destroy the E clutch in short order. With increased line pressure, better converter and maybe some tcm tuning, it might stand up to 700hp but it wont be long before the ecm starts pulling back fuel because the tcm will see slippage. I mean like 10+ 1/4 mile passes, et or mph will start dropping some. You wont even know it, OP. Thats why the lml and up holds together long when stock, it saves its self and your butt dyno doesnt catch it.

Also, youre not going to get 700+ hp through the stock aftertreatment. Ok, maybe BUT its going to regen a fuckload. You will also have some high back pressure in the exhaust.

Not going to lie, I’d love to see someone big single or compound a truck with stock aftertreatment and see just how much the dpf will support. I’d venture to say that 600-650 true rwhp is max and im being hopeful.

We are going to find out lol. This thing will never see a drag strip, and never tow anything but me.

I drive long distances for work once a month. So if I nail it will be at speed.

Thanks for all the inputs.

I have to ask, if you are never going to “nail it” or tow anything, why do this?

Because I want to, and besides I didnt say I was “never” going to nail it” Im not racing it - officially anyway.

I think I have found a trans RevMaxx or a Powertech that will support my intentions.

Revmaxx is trash, and I've never heard of powertech. I doubt either one will do what you want.

I 2nd this opinion. I have never had good luck with a RevMaxx unit (I've personally rebuilt 4 of their "1000hp" Allison's) and never heard of PowerTech.

OP, you are on a forum with some of the smartest minds behind Duramax trucks. I am knowledgeable but nowhere near as much as some of these guys especially on the 10spds. I do feel like I am one hell of a competent trans builder when it comes to 01-19. There is currently zero ability to add much clutch surface area in the 10spd transmissions, to the point where most get maybe a 20-25% uplift in surface area/clutch count.

What you "want to do" is simply impossible at this point in 2024. Once some high capacity billet drums etc come out it *may* be possible but I don't expect that to be for 12-24mo at minimum. We are trying to educate you and help you understand that the 10spd platform simply isn't there yet and won't be for a bit yet.

For example, the Ford version of this trans (10R140, shares much of the same internals as the 10L1000) is typically built to 650whp area of sustained/warrantied HP based on Randy's Transmission. SunCoast does not even list a HP on their 10R140 units.

I respect that. Im not discounting everyones opinions. Just for my knowledge. Is it possible (or makes sense) to consider swapping to a 6 speed?

It's in the works but how long is TBD. It's already been done putting a 10spd in a 17-19 truck but not a 6spd in a 20+ truck.

Well maybe thats an option. I plan to build as planned and not beat it, and when the weak link (trans) catches up to my build I will make the move.

Having 700 or 800whp and using it is two different things. I can refrain from turning up the wick until I have all the right parts.
