So here's the story.
A Month ago my trans lines started leaking. Local shop swapped the lines. Somehow my trans "blew up" last week. P700 code, only 4th and reverse worked. Trans temp was low 100's and never went over 200 on the limp home. Same shop said fluid was smoked and a lot of shavings in filter. They Did a flush and its working fine but they said in on borrowed time. They don't rebuild allisons but the owner and GM both have lml's.
I'm not going to lie, I drive the truck like a race car all the time. I'm on a moonshine 100hp tune, trans has 130k on it. I bought the truck with 100k on it and only drive 15 k a year. I figured it was gonna blow, but it's a little bit of a coincidence.
I have 3 questions.
1. Is trans shot?
2. Is it possible they helped it get there
3. If the l5p has another 50hp and 150tq stock. And the trans is the same as it was. How will it hold up with a tune?

The reasons for my questions are because I don't know if I should spend the money on a new truck or build the one I have.
If I get a new truck, I'm sure I will get it tuned and it's a lot easier to start down the rabbit hole on a used cheap truck then it would be to start with a $70,000 brand-new truck.
In other words, I will have this truck paid off in a year and can use the $10,000 I would put down on a new truck to modify this one, or I can put $10,000 down on a new truck and have double the payment I have now.
Thanks in advance for the help.

If you want to hotrod your truck, I would spend that 10k you have saved up for a built transmission, full EGR delete with y-bridge, a CP3 conversion, and a lift pump if you don't already have one.

The L5p may not have tuning available for a while, never know..
So like Josh said, if you gotta have aftermarket power upgrade then stick with what you have and use that money to get a good transmission and cp3 conversion and that'd be a fun setup..

I'd build your current trans. Will have 5k ish left over for other fun stuff, cp3 conversion leaves you with 3k left. 3k gets lots of nice smaller items or a bad turbo setup :)

If I had 10k to throw at my truck I'd sell it and put the money tword a 15 gmc dmax.

Yep, maybe I'm just getting older, or I like seeing cash in my account, but throwing money at 100k mile truck gets less appealing everyday. With that being said, I still have trust issues with those damn cheap Pistons, or I probly wouldn't mind so much.

But the op would be spending more getting the new truck than he would by keeping his, no?

I bought my LMM to last as long as possible. If I don't hit 500k miles I'll be pissed. So if I was in his scenario I'd be bolstering my current whip and holding any extra aside.

The 15+s are also way to fancy for me lol

Depends on the truck, and how it's driven, he said he's pretty hard on it, as I am hard on my equipment as well, so depending on when and what hard parts fail, it's a luck of the draw.

The room in a 15+ crew sells it to me..

Why? You aren't sitting there haha. definitely a little bigger but my shit fits just fine in the '08 as it did in my 14 1500 CC.

Less room is actually better for my dog cuz he's so damn top heavy. He's got more to lean on in the '08, and I care less about his nails scratching my fancy trim ;)

Good luck OP

I don't know where my signature went lol.
I have a 2007 1/2 LMM, 4 inch exhaust, downpipe, EGR delete, EFI live , built front end, pcv.
So I do have some money in the truck. But I feel as though I'm at the point where I'm either going to build it and love it or build it and regret that I didn't start with what might be a better platform in the L5P.
It's going to be tough to swallow if I spend a bunch of money just to get the same output that a L5P would with the tune.

That's very true, I definitely love my L5p.. Half of the reason or even more is the new body style and the bigger cab.. It's so quiet also and rides so good compared to my 11 model lml.. But when I drive my lml now it's pretty awesome how much power it has..
