Hope my title wasn't too confusing. The long story of the truck.

Truck is an 06 LBZ, 130k ish. Nothing done to it other than Rick's EGR delete tube which I installed and PCV reroute, little stuff. Previous owner put K&N intake on it:mad:. It's our herd managers truck. He calls today as he's towing a man lift to the other farm and says its starting to tick, he was a few miles away and decided to turn around and head back to grab a different truck, then it just sputtered and died. It would not restart.

After getting it back here, I knew the fuel filter was new but knew he was going through a lot on the skid steers at that farm. I noticed the filter head was piping hot as well, but I could touch it. Pulled it off and when I went to drain the filter it had no clear fuel in it and just a milky color to it. As I continued to drain, blobs of white gunk started coming out. Cut the filter apart and it was lined with a film of whatever the stuff is. I put a new one on and it restarted but ran very rough.

I noticed in the process of this that the K&N filter had fallen off. Half the reason I hate those things. There is no lip to hold it on anyways.

The only codes the truck had were two related to the EGR delete pipe (I haven't tuned it yet) and a P0087 which would make sense with the fuel restriction.

The truck shakes violently and surges as well if that makes any sense to anyone. The fuel rail pressure will only hit 9k when ramped up with the DVT. Injectors 1 and 4 have balance rates that are +11. For whatever reason commanded fuel pressure was dancing all over the place before I adjusted it with the DVT.

Going to check the return rates next, and will be sending an oil sample off to check for a lot of dirt in the oil, however at this point I do not think the air filter has anything to do with this issue.

Thanks,

Water in the fuel? Do You use the fuel source for other trucks/machines? Sounds like you sucked some shit into the injectors! May have to disassemble injectors or send them out for cleaning. :( the filtering have let debris through.

X 3 on checking the fuel if it looks like pina colada get it out of the tank. I had a large load of water in my fuel and the injectors and FPR where all ruined. Injector balance rates were all over the place and moved from injector to injector, It all started as a small tick, good luck

No water settled out it seemed but i wouldnt be surprised if some of that junk made it past.

I have a return test kit but have to pick up the adapters tomorrow. I read that bulletin about the pump issue and the engine valley is damo with fuel but no puddles.

Before I drove to borrow the adapters I decided to check the banks. Pulling apart the drivers side one I broke the tee but just wanted a quick idea of if I needed to pursue the adapters. So I hooked only 2,4,6 to the test tube. 1,3,5,7 were all in the other one.

Now other than having the glow plug module and intake off , I had nothing else disconnected. For whatever reason it would not fire. Which is ehat you want for the test anyways but I am curious why it would not fire. If it wasnt getting fuel then my return test doesn't show much anyways. It did run yesterday but wont today. I cranked it 4 different times in 15 second intervals. During a 15 second crank after the hoses were primed, the pass side returned just under 10ml which is good, the drivers side returned just under 30 which is bad.

Now what is conflicting my results are a couple things. For startersbthe truck will not run anymore so I cant confirm the injectors are all getting the proper amount of fuel, which could explain my other question, #1 and #4 were the two with balance rates over +11 yet only the bank #4 in appears to be returning too much.

I am going to get the adapters now to do individual injectors. I will try to get tge truck running again first before testing. I searched in many places but could not find how to disable the truck from starting. Maybe ill look up the GM procedure while I am there.

If I remember correctly the amount the CP3 returns does no matter, its supposed to be the last part replaced if everything else passes.

Correct me if I am wrong on anything or if anyone has any other input that would be great. If the fuel tests lead me nowhere I may check compression incase it did injest something without the filter being on.

Your sig makes me lmfao:rofl:
Good luck:thumb:
Do you have a couple injector you could switch into the mix? Eliminate some variables, compression check the bad cylinders, go from there...

Exact same thing is going on with my friends truck... Passenger side tick. Loses rail pressure on a wot run balance rates aren't too bad.

Try plugging the glow plug module back in and see if it fires. By the symptoms you are describing I would bet money there was/is water in the suspect injectors and that the injector shop is going to find nastiness inside the injectors.

Those two tested as bad at the shop as the balance rates showed. The shop had two on hand, put them in, got it to fire after a little bit of cranking, now #2 and #6 show +11 and it has a tough idle although smoother than before. Forgot to hook the return hoses back up, but the size of the puddles on the floor tells me there is a lot more than 16-20ml coming out of them.

I'm going to pull all of the remaining injectors now and take them up there to have them tested.

On another note though, I was able to get the CP3 to hold 23,000psi of rail pressure at idle. Before I replaced those two injectors I could only get 9,000psi out of it.

Vinny i would dump the tank and clean out the lines before you contaminate the rest of the injectors,i know water will not atomize very well.I think you have some kind of contamination going on weather its water or whatever i wouldnt try and run it again till you get the system clean.Just my take.

What he said get rid of that fuel, get a good biocyde

Might as well pull them all and have them gone through, I hate to say it but I spent all last summer messing with this it moved around and around. I ended up going through all the injectors some a couple of times, and a fuel pressure regulator before it was all said and done (if its made it to 4 of them its made it into 8 of them), Good luck

edit: didnt realize you already are pulling all the injectors good idea:thumb:

Tank will be drained and cleaned with filter changes very often for a few months until they clean up a bit. Should know tomorrow the health of the injectors. Given the fact that I feel the rest are probably all bad, and the CP# makes 23,000 at idle despite that, I feel it will hopefully be okay once I get all good injectors in there.

Im wiping out the intake horn and such now. Lots of dirt built up. Got a dry AFE filter to replace the K&N.
