The belt on my truck keeps jumping off the grooved pulleys, seems like it starts at the tensioner and cuts a rib right off.
has anyone had this problem ? This is already the second tensioner

I had to shim my cp-3 by placing a washer between the pump and the mounting bracket on the bottom bolt. This pulled the pump closer to the radiator. Just a regular 3/16 washer. Mine had the same problem one pass at wide open throttle and it would strip 2-3 ribbins off my belt on the tensioner.

Almost always alignment of pulleys. Get a yardstick/ruler and check attitude of pulleys.

Another thing, is sometimes the harmonic balancer will wobble. Replace.

Since the new tensioner and idlers in 2009, my belt jumps 1-2 ribs every run at the strip. Have to keep resetting it in the pits. I may look into a slightly shorter belt to see if that can keep extra tension on the system.

Replaced with a Gates green belt and all is fine :thumb:

I had the same issue some time ago. Original tensioner threw belts, bought a new tensioner at napa, still threw belts. Bought tensioner at the dealership, problem solved.

Its good to look at belt length not creating enough tension, but if you cant find a belt to place the tensioner twords the tighter side of the gauge look into changing the dia. of one or two of the idler pulleys or adding a pulley where needed.

Toman tells me its because the tensioner flexes in and out, the dealer has a fix for it. Its a huge new assy that bolts in.

The dayco tensioner is WAY beefier. I was throwing belts all the time...switched pulleys, shimmed everything till square, no dice. Put on the new dayco tensioner, bam all set.
