Yes you can get 500hp out of the stock turbo, but you have to drive it very hard and frankly it's harder on the motor pushing a turbo out of it's efficiency range. If you want to drive around all the time on a 500hp tune I would suggest getting a turbo or upgrading the IHI which is also a great option.
I will tend to agree here,ctrump90 went for a ride with Bob after some new tuning and he was hitting 42 psi and bob was telling him "get out of it get out of it"Corey said what? it runs there all the time:eek: we all know thats opperating out of its map and dangerous as far as the wheel coming apart on 150,000 mile turbo.Id rather make 500 horse in the middle of the power band then at the tiptop.Just my oppinion.

Oh and have never owned a chevy before how do you change the daytime running lights? The one right next to the blinker. Took a brief look this evening but didn't dig into it. Probably simpler then I think.

Make sure its not a bad ground instead of bulb. One of mine goes out all the time and I just have to wiggle the wires to get it to come back on. There a L shaped pin that runs across top of headlight. Pull that pin and the headlight pops out. Then you can get to the blinker/DRL underneath

First of all yes I do, but where did I say it's making 500hp all time? The factory charger becomes a heat pump at those levels and it is harder on the motor, I'm not sure what's not true about that? Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the factory turbo can't do it, I've done it with the IHI, I'm saying if you can afford it you'd be better off upgrading the charger.

My personal experience says different. Thats my opinion.

I ran a fass.on the Cummins what's good for the lb7? 2 micron filter? Then transmission. How do the head studs hold up on these engines? I want to do Efi live. Maybe just a single tune for milage for now. I have a Pyro gauge in the truck currently thinking mechanical boost gauge then an edge insight to round out the gauges.

run a DSP 5 efi live tune, and don't look back, there are several great tuners out there to choose from, head studs are good to close to 35-40psi (I think) on the LB7? but are a nice security to upgrade. Fass, air dog, Kennedy, any of these are going to be a good fuel pump and filter, you will get mixed opinions but all will do the job you are looking to do

Yea I don't want to build power then break everything like I did with my first truck. So lift pump Efi live tranny head studs then turbo. I'm nervous with this unknown programmer I don't want to start ruining things with a plug and play. My injectors and cp3 should be up to snuff to do 500 hp correct? Basically just turbo and tuning for the power adders to make that power

Primary concern to me would be the lift pump and better filters, then in as short of order as possible I would get A efi live tune to overwrite the unknown tune file and just keep it in the lower power tunes, then build the trans, then do some intake stuff and a turbo, upgrade engine internals and then add fuel:woott:

My list would be lift pump(I like the KENNEDY pumps, VERY QUIET!), intake(not required, but won't hurt), exhaust, built trans(5 speeds don't play well much over 400HP), boost valve, and a good EFILIVE custom tune. For 500 theres no need to spend the money on a turbo, just add in a boost valve to get it up around 30-32 pounds of boost. MANY people have run these same combos on LB7's and hit 500-550 at the wheels. Yes a turbo will help clear it up at that HP level, but not required.

Very good info

X2

Not correct. Remember....you arent at 500hp in every gear, all the time. It'll only be 500 at WOT....do you drive at WOT all the time????

YES....:D
You don't  ?

The only time I'm not w.o.t is when I am just cruising, even then it's not all that often;) and I DD my race tune:D and I agree with PAcouger, if this is the intended driving style, then a turbo upgrade is pretty essential, even though the stock turbo "can" do it, it's not really meant to do it, pushing it all the time is asking for trouble, an upgraded charger will run cooler, with less drive pressure and provide more power all the time, when properly tuned, and because its working more consistently in its map, it will be more reliable in the long run

Just my opinion, based off little experience, and a lot of research :thumb: and a lot of money spent with very little complications and breakage

I personally have pushed my IHI to it's limits every day and it's now blown up. After talking to Mark B., and Bob O. I realise that IHI is total garbage from the get go. It's too bad there isnt a cheap option for a stockish size, reliable replacement.

My point is, if your funds allow I'd upgrade for 500-550hp Daily Driving.

Ill keep thay in mind I'm in the middle of a career change so the lift pump and Efi live are the first things that are going on. Then when funds allow build the trans and do the supporting mods. Who knows it may be an all out build. I just know for a while it'll be a relative low end build. Just want reliability and good milage for now.

Unless your doing your own tuning, I would hold off on EFILIVE until AFTEr your trans is built. You can have it tuned for a built trans and run in the lower power levels with your stock trans, but I know how tempting it is to have power on tap and not be able to use it. And for a LB7, I only reccomend a DSP2 switch. There is really no need for 5 tunes with an LB7 as you can't put a turbo brake in it via tuning, and the ALLISON doesn't like having the HP levels changed as it needs to learn the HP level for proper shifting.
