13 resumes for architectural firms
4 resumes for Structural firms
1 interview for an architectural firm 2 weeks before a huge project they were hiring for got shut down

so I started looking for anything and applied at various places..turned in 27 applications locally over the last 6 months..I also emailed many job hunters, and did a bunch of online apps for various companies.

only got a few calls, and out of that I got,
1 interview at sears, but not hired
1 interview at auto zone, but not hired
1 interview for some contract but no work avail.

Also did a phone interview with a company and never heard back.

I know I did very well in these interviews, dressed very well, spoke very well, and did my best.

Why the hell am I not finding work? I am looking everyday, calling all the time, submitting apps, sending out resumes, even going for jobs I can easily do. Like sears or autozone.
this sucks and I'd really like to be working, this crap is stressing me out to the end. I have sold my trailer, my mustang, and my quad. When does it end. I had a damn good job and worked my ass off for my toys and now its slowly going away.

I am going to try to see if the dealership is hiring in parts or something...they said they were not last time, but I am going to try again.

Places like sears and autozone wont higher you because you are "over qualified" and they know as soon as you can find a job at a arch firm your gone. and yeah it sucks alot. Have you thought about relocating?

I relocated to here for the job I had here (then that company went south 2 years later). I love it here and dont really want to move. Id like to try to make it here.

This is literally the biggest joke. What is going on? I have thought about not even putting my college on my resume for these "other" type of jobs.

Sucks that I spend damn near 5 years in college and end up looking at places like autozone for work (yes I paid for my own college so I had to carry a job (actually 2) while I went to school, so I wasnt able to load up on classes).

Yeah i can respect not wanting to move, i still refuse live in houston and work in south texas lol but my sisters in the same boat 5 years of college and shes living with my parents making 10$ hr at a book store. Getting to know people in the industry helps alot idk what kind of old contacts you have but you might start digging those up and make some more calls:thumb:

I would move to Elko if I were you. There are a lot of jobs in the mining industry starting at $20 or more an hour. Unemployment rate in Nevada is like 13.?% and in Elko County it is 6%. This town isn't too bad just A LOT smaller then Vegas. Lots of outdoor stuff to do here. Just an idea...

get your CDL-A w/ every endorsement you can get (1500 bucks through a driving school)

become an EMT/Medic (cheap through your local community college)

get your ASE certs(buy a study guide and take the tests)

After your ASE get your EVT(emergency vehicle technician)

Join the national guard, plenty of engineering jobs and you can build up your resume until this :poop: blows over. 10g's a month tax free ain't bad either:cool:

I have most of the above and I haven't been out of work since the day I graduated (08) Many of my jobless friends don't have any other skills, you've got to work the system or it's going to work you. Ya gotta get your hustle on...

All DF drama aside, I feel for ya Mike. I wanted to stay in a bigger city but there were no jobs, so I bet vegas has got to be tough right now. If you think about relocating, the midwest is still going strong for the most part. Hell in the population ~50k town I live in right now I've got a damn good paying job, plus my pick of 3 different open IE jobs, all $60k+ a year, and I'm 24. All the talent moves away to big cities after they finish school, so it's not tough to find a job out here. Until the economy picks up vegas doesn't sound like the place to be.

I know what your talking about, I got out of school, had a few different various jobs, and a drive to work, but couldnt get hired at even the most basic sensless job. Hang in there aslong as you can it'll always pan out, if you've got the drive.

Best of luck man. It's gota suck cuz I'm sure your rent and bills are crazy there. The cost of living in the midwest is what makes it nice. I'm renting a farm hose on 3 acres with a barn and decent sized steel bldg for $450 a month plus utilities. It's nothing special, but for the price... I can't imagine what it costs to live in vegas, especially in a nice place. I can hardly afford to vacation there

Hang in there tho man, degrees like yours and mine are where the money's at no matter what anyone says.

Haha yeah, it's nice and I kind of fell into it. The house isn't anything special. It's kind of got a 70's theme going on, but I'm doing some painting and working with the landlord on some little upgrades here and there to make it a little nicer. It's a roof though over my head though, with a couple bedrooms a BIG lawn, and a two car garage that my truck fits in!! But around here $500 a month will get you one of the nicer apartments in town pretty regularly. Sure makes the money go a lot farther, thats for sure.

Sorry to hear about your continuing employment problems. I remember you posted a while back that you lost your job, but I thought you had found something by now. Out of curiosity, what kind of degree do you have?

Been doing my own thing on the side to stay busy and pay bills.

Bachelor of Environmental Design (although I have been working for a structural firm here in Vegas before I got laid off).
