I think it would depend on a few things
Compression
Ambient temp
CC amps of thesingle battery

I run lower compression and live in a colder climate....But have one single with 1500 CA:)

Works good

i want to do this too but where do you put the second battery and if you run one would it be enough? i thought about running a single battery but its been cold here. around 8 degrees this morning. I dont know if one battery would cut it. I guess one 1500 CCA battery would be the same as 2 700 CCA batteries. What battery do you run? also is there any weight saving? i know the bigger batts are usually pretty heavy.

For my diesel conversion on an 82 truck, the second battery goes on the dr side fender/rad support area. This is where I would like to mount my engine/trans controllers.

I could try to mount a second battery on the pass fenderwell like the Duramax trucks, but I would rather save the weight, expense & time if I do not have to.

Has anyone used a single battery of a normal dimension. What cold cranking amps are you running?

The Duramax typically calls for a 78 series battery & my truck a 75 series.

It gets pretty cold here also, but i dont drive my truck that often, so i think i might run 1 battery next year.

during the summer i have had no problem with one battery. imo, 2 batteries are for cold weather starts. just think, thick oil, glow plugs, aih, cold batteries and dont want to give up the power, little big of strain on those batteries, hence 2 of them. the trucks like warm weather!

I heard of a battery that has 3000cca and it is half the size of the regular batteries. The only down side is it is about $350. Ill try to remember the name
