Ive purchased a truck from a friend of mine. We recently reflashed it with some new tunes from Kory and have had nothing but issues. ( Im new to the big single turbo game, and fairly new to the EFI game; having only owned trucks with just EFI in the past )

Heres the backstory on the truck : Built by Diesel Addiction in 2010.

S475 single, Wicked Stage 3 Cp3, Exergy 60% Injectors, manifolds and up pipes, studded with C gaskets, Gmax 5 with Precision converter, BT lockup box, Pro fab Y bridge, AFE IC tubes, supporting mods...etc

The truck was originally running Dustins pulling tunes and were too smokey and just unpleasant to drive on the street. So we made a call to Kory and had him write a few tunes for it. The new tunes are not as strong as the previous ( which is fine because I know its more safe ) and they are of course way less smokey.

But the new tunes have alot of issues that have yet to be worked out with Kory after multiple data logs were submitted on several different occasions.

1. The first issue is a RPM jump before shifting on the higher HP tunes. The truck will cruise thru 1-2nd gear then on occasions when changing into 3rd and 4th it will jump RPM almost like it rev's between gears.

2. The second issue is that there is a short engine rattle through the gears on every tune. If your just cruising through the gears barely on the fuel pedal there is a short rattle ( its loud as shit ) before gear changes @2000-2200 RPM under 2psi of boost. I dont know if its a pilot/main injection or some other issue.

3. The third is that the truck will act like its missing sometimes going into 4th gear. It will spit and sputter and puff some white smoke. Once the white smoke clears it will drive like normal.

4. The fourth issue is the shifting itself. The truck wants to stay in the higher RPM range even when just cruisng on the lowest HP "stock" tune w/ TowHaul off. Now I know that is good for spooling the large turbo but it can be down right annoying at times. Can this be fixed or atleast tamed?

- These issues were not here with Dustins tunes -

With that being said the truck still runs strong and made 697/1150 on the dyno at Rudys with the first set of tunes that Kory sent for the truck. If the small issues could be worked out that would be great. Several sets of data logs in every tune, normal and WOT, have been sent and no resolution.

I understand Kory is busy and its hard to remotely tune a truck thats setup like this. But the truck hasn't been completely right for almost 4 months now and its getting a little monotonous. This is no attempt to bash Kory for his work because I know its WAY over my head. This is just a thread about issues I'm having and considering switching tuners. I've had Korys tunes on a few other trucks and they've been flawless.

Sorry for the novel it just takes alot of explaining. Any help is appreciated.

Trans tuning will not fix the issues. It nay help with some if them but not all. It sounds like some timing changes, defuel changes and trans tuning change would probably take care of you.

Tuning shouldn't cause an intermittent miss in the engine... Maybe the classic LLY harness rub spots need looked at? Electrical issues can be a PITA and cause all kinds of issues. I know you said your not bashing Kory but this is the first I have heard of an issue with his tunes, not saying it could never happen but you could have some mechanical issues as well.

Right I understand it could be. But it has no miss or sputter during the 2/3 or 3/4 shift what-so-ever in the lowest tune. But the bigger tunes do.

I can take a datalog and video of the shift if it would help anyone.

I took 10 data logs in total. I took 1 in each tune just easy on the throttle, then 1/per at WOT. All 2wd, no tow haul.

Then I also took a long data log and a video of the gauges to go along with the log. You can hear the rattle as well as the rpm jump in the 3/4 change.

The files I have from my v2 are ".efi " . I dont know anything about opening them up in Explorer or Scan and Tune and inspecting them so I will email them to Kory along with the video.

Yes, shoot me a datalog... The last file i sent,,, I have this thing running stock pressure past idle... so shouldnt be pressure rattle. I lowered timing down to next to nothing in the "rattle ranges"... so i would be surprised if thats it. I run pretty well stock defuel on huge builds to stock trucks, and have had tremendous success with some of the best shifts ever doing so... So is it a defuel between shifts? Not sure, I will look at the logs your sending me and see if its pulling mm3. With running 45MPA@idle the truck SHOULD NOT SMOKE at idle with 60% injectors. So this is also leading me to physical issue, especially since associated with rattle... but after review of log we may be able to pinpoint further.

EDIT: I just got the datalog, looking at log... 3k RPMS at 38% throttle? This thing HAS to have a tcm tune in it and i do not recall writing on for this truck.... need to start from there and flash a stock tcm tune in. May even require a fast learn from tech II if is learned hard enough in...This setup really doesnt need a TCM tune either.....

Thanks,
Kory

Ok update time..

I got the ECM reflashed with the updated tune but havent had a chance to drive it.

Now I attempted to flash the TCM tune you sent me. I had some difficulty.

At first I tried loading it into my V2 via BBx but it said that V8 didnt support that particular .tun file. So I read on the efi forums that you can open the tune up in v7.5 and resave it as a .ctz. So I somehow figured out how to do that, then reloaded the tune with the .ctz extension onto the v2. Left the E60 and AL5 controllers selected in Scan & Tune and went to the truck. Now I got the existing sled TCM tune pulled off but everytime I try to flash the stock TCM tune on the truck I get error $0502. Script not found. At first I thought I selected the wrong controllers but I double checked my laptop and all is good.

Any help is appreciated.

x2 on the relearn with a Tech 2. That 3-4 flare shift isn't uncommon. Once you get your tcm flashed get your taps reset & do a fast learn with a Tech2. It may take some time but it'll learn to pop off the shifts nice & smooth.

Got hooked up by Willie Parsons today using TeamViewer. He was able to pass-thru flash a stock TCM file no problem.

Been driving the truck around town trying to get it to relearn. Driving it on my middle tune as well as using different amounts of throttle. Slowly but surely Im confident it will be a totally different truck with the tuning issues worked out.

Thanks again Kory and Willie.

Did you reset the taps and cells with a tech2? Thats the only way to get them to start over. They get super funky for a 100 miles or so though... lol So dont freak out when it flares shifts...

Yea drove it for a few hundred miles on the new TCM tune and it did great.

Slung the #7 rod thru the block riding down the interstate last monday though. Im going to end up swapping a stock motor and trans back in the truck and selling it.

Ill keep all the aftermarket shit for my next truck. Atleast whatever will swap over to a LBZ
