Is this crank seal in all the way?

I am using the correct Kent Moore install tool (thanks delong_1!) and Victor Reinz seals. Seal doesn't look like it's fully seated to me, but the bolt feels like it bottomed out on something, and I'm scared to tighten it any further for fear of stripping threads. Can anyone confirm if this is in all the way?

What about the lip on the front of the inner seal? Wouldn't that keep the balancer from seating fully against the crank?

I think the bolt may have bottomed out in the crank snout.

My tool has a bolt you run down that has a nut on it and a bearing between the nut and the tool. You use a wrench to hold the bolt and run the nut down to push the tool. Hopefully that makes sense.

This is what a properly installed GM seal looks like..(might need to zoom in) although I never worked with victor seals the inner sealing ring on yours looks like it should be recessed a little... At any rate the inner and outer sealing rings need to be relaxed persay if they are bound the seal won't last long

Well I am an idiot. I did not remove the inner part of the old seal before trying to install the new one. Didn't realize when I removed the front and rear covers that the inner seal stayed on the crank shaft. I for sure ruined the new front seal, possible the rear one as well. Sigh.

Rear seal is ok, did not ruin. Front was ruined. On the plus side, I was able to remove the front that I just installed, as well as the old front and rear inners without removing the covers. $30 for a new front and I'll be back in business. Whew.

On second look I am not sure if I tweaked the rear seal or not. Going to replace anyway, not worth saving a couple extra bucks to have to do it again after I realize I have a rear main leak.

Good call. Sorry to hear you had to learn the hard way.

Bet I won't make that mistake again :) as madmax said above, better too have caught it now than after the engine went in and started leaking like crazy...
