ATSG does not have all the answers....it just shows how to take it apart and put it back together.....for the most part.

If you have the GM shop manual for the Ally, that will also help (I have it on the Helm, Inc. CD). The GM manual gives all of the max/min tolerances for the hard parts...this is not available in the ATSG.

Both are useful.

Just wondering is that Allison Rebuild manual ,I believe it was called Transmission Times, and put out by Trans-Go still available? I'll be darned if I can find mine. I probably lent it out and never got it back.

The Transmission Times book was written by my friend Steve Younger formerly of Transgo. Transgo had nothing to do with this book. It is still available from me.

Oops sorry bout the bad info and thanks for the good info. :thumb:

So those that buy kits from you should include this Manual in their purchase mooch'a better then the ASTG manual! If you try and sneak a manual from Mike and not buy your kit from Mike you'll suffer the beat down! :D

I only said that cause I brought it up about the very informative manual for the DIY enthusiast. ;)

The Transmission Times from Mike, it is a good book, with a lot of good tech information. I use it for reference all the time. :D The information is valuable.

I've considered trying my hand at mine too. I take 2-3 customer transmissions a month to my local transmission guys and have very good luck with thier work and he has already told me that if I bring him my Allison and the kit that I'm using that he will build mine for $300, but I'd really like to learn what makes it tick...
I'm very mechanically inclined, but have very limited experience with automatics, guess we'll see when the time comes.
