OUCH!!!! lol, i can't say anything, i drove a truck for hours with the VDR in it trying to duplicate a concern. when it finally happened, i hit the button and nothing happened. I looked down and saw i had knocked the plug out with my leg or foot.

It's gotta be a wiring issue! either internal or between the trans connector and the tcm. Have you been able to log the fault happening??

i finally caught it today while driving. dont really know what im loooking at but im going to send it to george and let him look at it. i was thinking i might try the internal wire harness next. my plug is leaking a little into the inside. i guess after everything else a internal wire harness is just small in comparison.

Yep,, spin wrenches long enough and your bound to have a book full of stories of the dumb shit you've done or overlooked no matter how good ya are. If you say otherwise you're lying!!!! it may be minor stuff but it does happen! I busted the windshield out of a car last winter trying to get a wiper arm off!!! True story!!!! lol

What have you tried so far? Have you dropped the pan to see what was in there yet?? is the truck stalling??? What other sypthoms do you have besides the code??

yeah ive been all through the trans, new converter, new f-trim solenoid, new speed sensors, tryed different tcm, checked wires for continuity, and one of the tsb's gm has on it says something about the map, maf, fuel pressure sensor, baro, and regulators can cause an intermittent p0742. ive replaced the map, and maf. everything else checks out fine in a log where it trips. no the truck does not stall. it does not show any signs of the code other then its extremely aggravating having to leave the efi hooked up to clear it to go in reverse. trans doesnt run hot, no dragging, no bucking, stalling, nothing.

Mine did the same thing work fine for a while then shift funny and throw different codes. The plugs that go in the Tcm and the Ficm "The one on the valve cover" they were dirty pulled them off and cleaned them with contact cleaner. Plugged them in and had not had a problem with it anymore.

I had a similar problem to what you are describing and it was the connector on the speed sensor on top of the tranny. It appeared to be fine but was broke and the pins weren't making connections all of the time. It would loose connection then set the codes.

well if he could let the cat out of the bag without throwing anyone under the bus, i'd like to hear the cause/glitch for future reference. :thumb: could save me or others a lot of heartache if we ever have this issue. looking forward to the verdict!!!
