Im getting ready to get my trans built and i was going to go with a stage III with a 1056 but a couple of people have said a stage III isnt enough. I do some sled pulling around 20 hooks a year, drag race every once in a while, and tow a 5-8k load a couple times a week.

You are 100% fine. It also depends who builds it, it does make a difference.

Just my opinion, but for the relatively small difference in price, I'd say go with the IV while you're in there. Better to build it better then you need than to find you didn't go quite far enough. JMO, YMMV.

We have a good ol SCIII in Reeces truck and mine. Reece just went 12.30 @109.5. That puts him in the 600rwhp range. We kinda feel like theres less tying up with the SCIII style transmissions that are off the shelf. Now if you have an experienced builder that goes out the window but for the bone stock off the shelf kit the SCIII is very hard to beat and seems to bang around less in my experience.

Not much more for very long. The stage 3 adds one more clutch to the C3. It helps a lot but not enough.
McRat's truck Big Blue had a stage 3 installed by me and had over 500 passes in the 1/4. Pat was not running the kind of power back then. I rode in Blue a couple of weeks ago and I will tell you that the stage 3 kit will not give him 500 passes now.

Mike L, he has pull with SC. It would be best to get him to build it, that way you dont have to worry about anything.

Mike L is def. the way to go, you could piece it together, but he is going to be much better with you support wise if you buy from him bc then he knows what was done and how to go about fixing it. just my two cents.....also, i would def. recommend going to a 4 kit. it really isnt that much more down the road, and its better piece of mind. a 3 will be enough, but just like tuning, the bigger the better :D

im not downing a homemade trans by anymeans, i have one myself and i love how it holds, its just i had to wait awhile to find my clutches....its easier to just buy a complete kit

i can testify as to what the sc3 will hold and it will stay in my truck till the day it limps or breaks , but for anyone competing with there truck the sc4 is the way to go .

What about everyday handling of the 4 and 5 tranny's? I heard the 4 and 5 kits can be a little more harsh on the daily driver schedule. They can be pretty rough and bang on the shifts once in a while. What experience have you guys encountered with these units?

What is the difference between the 4 and 5 kit? What are the mods done to the valvebody? Thanks

only difference is suncoast assembles the stage 5 i think . but from what i have seen on the web anyway , the stage 4's that the pro's like mike and george assemble seem to be better . and to adress your later post the same aply's to the shifting , i have helped build a stage 4 and it shifts like a dream as with my stage 3 .

My sc3 from MikeL is holding about 50k on it,About 450-500hp. Alot of towing and some racing and a few sled pulls. but I do not race all the time. When it needs a refresh I will see Mike again, and let him do his magic.
