Is a 6.0 okay for me?

I committed to the 6.0. Not worried about the mileage much. Campground is local and I have a car for work. This one has atleast 2 broken manifold bolts. I hope I can get them all out ok. Going with ARP studs I think. Also has a knock sensor code. Both issues seem to be extremely common with these trucks. But it sure seemed to drive pretty good considering the 10 ply's and all.

The middle ones generally aren't too bad to get out, with the head in the truck, but the rear-most ones can be, depending on how they are broken off and how stuck they are.

But there are also third-party "clamps", that use pre-existing unused bolt holes in the head to hold the clamp, with another bolt to press against the manifold to clamp it against the head. I've been using 3 of them on my 6.0 and they've worked fine for me for over a year now.

Thanks, I've checked out the clamps. I am missing 3 bolts from each side. The only one that is broken off flush is the front drivers side. I think I might go with headers and studs. You have any piston slap or valve noise? Seems to be a common deal with these.

I just picked up a 08 6.0 with 140k for a work truck. Is it worth while to pull the bolts out manifold and put studs in now? I'm not looking to put much money into it. I'm just going to drive it for 2 or 3 years them maybe sell it to my dad for a ranch truck.

If that year is setup the same I would say yes. I have 6 missing! Only one is broke off flush and it's the drivers front. Mine are in such bad shape I would bet that the manifolds aren't straight anymore.

What started as swapping starters on my friends LS2 led to the heads coming off and H/C time due to snapped exhaust bolts :spit:

I think I'm just going to leave it be they are all intact for now. It sound like they locktight them in there good and they normally break off trying to remove them. The best way sounds to be welding a nut on them to back them out.

Sound like all the gas burners are having these issues.

This is the one I picked up a few weeks back. Little rust on the cab corners and rockers but got it for 5800. I think that was a pretty fair price.

I had an early 06' 2500hd with a 6.0, I put a few mods on it and left the stock exhaust and it would do donuts with 35's from a dead stop, it flat hauled ass....for 10k miles, after the second trans it was a gutless pos, wouldn't even powerbrake 245's. It had 19k when I bought it and 35k when I got the LLY. It was dead in those few short miles.

What was dead the engine, or did the second tranny possibly have issues taking up a lot of power? Mine has 232,000 miles and is no duramax but runs well. I am looking into an NV4500 swap though.
