wouldn't you still need the V2 for iphone or anyother device to communicate with ecm. you could likely pickup small reconditioned laptop for for price of iphone.

Rev and Dash Command are 2 apps that will hook up to the OBDII port with a separate cable just like EFILive.
They do basic scan tool operations and some G-meter/GPS stuff like acceleration and braking performance. They run around $30-$40.
Both have good reviews and I think you have to get a 3rd party cable, the cables we already have won't work AFAIK.
