iPhone 3Gs 3.1.3 Jailbroken:

For those with newer iPhones, or those who are running the latest updated software (O/S 3.1.3), they released the Jailbreak for it.

A jailbreak is a patch to the O/S that allows the phone to do things that Apple does not approve of.

It is not permanent, you can reflash over it with the Restore in iTunes.

I did it so I could use my phone as a 3G hotspot when on the road. This available in Europe, but the American phones are disabled. http://www.apple.com/iphone/iphone-3gs/tethering.html

Anyhow the Spirit mod is free, painless and quick, but you might lose your photos so save them.

As far as I can tell, it just lost my photos, nothing else. The only app I tested was iPhoneModem, which worked on a Mac. Need to test it on a PC.

It's our "friends" at AT&T that demanded that feature. I imagine when AT&T loses exclusive rights to the iPhone that it might change.

AT&T really needs to pull their head out.

I'm glad the jailbreak is good for the updated os now. I've had mine jail broke for a while now but have not updated my os for fear of losing my jail break features. I use My Wifi to tether my laptop while on the road.

did you download rock and cydia? Find "MY WIFI" under one of those two and download the free trial. I ended up buying the paid version for $10 after my trial ran out.

go to www.blackra1n.com and download the software for your machine 'windows or mac" and make sure your phone is plugged in while you do it. the rest is cut and dry as it installs. It's been a while since i done mine but i remember it took quite a while so dont get in to big of a hurry.
