Internal tranmission filter

Will it hurt to change internal trans filter I call the dealer they said change it it wnt hurt but I've read so much ppl are saying DNt change the internal filter what should I do here it's only got 79000 miles on it should I just leave the internal filter alone and do external only or would it be better to do both

Change it. It's important to see what condition it's in. It's good to know if anything is going on internally.

What he said. It isn't going to hurt anything to change it, and it gives you a chance to see how much clutch material is in the bottom of the pan.

I change it every 50k. Why not. Easy and know trans condition.

Yeah... I do the spin on twice a year when I change the oil, I barely do 10k miles a year anyway

You should have changes the fluid by now anyway . So drop the pan and swap out the internal filter. IMO the Allison spin on should be changed at every engine oil change. Approx 3500/5000 miles.

The intervals in the manual didn't take into account what most people put their trucks through.

Correct and there is some initial fuzz shedding off of the new clutches after a build.

There sure is some a lot more than others.

Many would say I go overboard, but every oil change(10K miles), I change the engine oil and filter(5W40 synthetic), trans spin on, and both of my fuel filters(I have a 30 micron pre-filter mounted on the frame). And at 25-30K miles I dropped the pan and changed the internal filter. Filters are cheaper than hard parts any way you slice it.
