I stopped in at a local dealer (whom I thought had a good reputation) to have my injectors checked (smoke at idle, rough idle)...they said I had to schedule it. I can't be without a truck, so I had to make some arrangements. I call them back, explained the situation and asked if I could wait while they check it. The "service consultant" got pissy with me and said "NO, you can't wait...its at least a three hour job to check injectors on that truck". I said (knowing full well the procedure) "Oh, what does that test consist of?". Stealer "You have to tear the motor down, pull the return lines on each injector and see how much fuel they return into a beaker". Me (still playing dumb)"Ok, I thought you just hooked it up to a computer. Stealer "NO, it requires engine teardown, if I don't do it this way GM won't pay me...and once you commit to the test you commit to injector replacement". I said "Then forget about checking them". He just hung up.

I called another dealer and they were good folks over the phone, said they will do it while I wait and that it takes about a half hour. I'm taking it there.

I took my truck to the good dealer for the test, it took 40 minutes and they did it while I waited (sounded good when they ramped up the rail psi). The injectors failed and they replaced all 8 injectors.
Now the truck runs better than it ever has (more boost too...before it would hit 16psi and creep to 17psi, now it hits 22psi), it is alot quieter (less clatter) and no more smoke at idle. :)

Good to hear. Some dealers either don't have a clue or think everyone is retarded.

I would honestly think about filing a complaint with GM-how many other people got screwed by those guys?

Yeah I got the feeling that the "service consultant" didn't think I had a clue. I too wondered if they actually do the testing that way, or say they do (charge for it) and check them via the tech II.

I would do some serious advertising for them.

I definately will for the good dealership...and everyone will know how the stealership treated me too. After talking to some folks, I come to find out the dealer that did my work already has a great reputation among Dmax owners in the area.

Good Deal, hell that counts as a Christmas present!!

Haha, yeah it does Tim.

Anyone know if there are any special things I should do to ensure maximum life out of these injectors? I already run the Diesel Kleen additive and change the fuel filter every 10k. I just changed the oil in it after getting it back, they never mentioned changing the fuel filter (which has about 5K miles on it).

I thought of getting the CAT filter heads and doing auxillary filtration, but that may put strain on the cp3 without a lift pump...so I'll need one of those.
