Intake Horn Problem

Don't know if it is called the intake horn or not but I am talking about the very last inter cooler pipe that goes in the valley of the motor a bit and is cast alluminum.

I've been hearing a leak for awhile now and couldn't find it so startd tearing stuff apart and found that the intake horn has two o-rings on the end and is just press fit in... WTF:confused:

Well I blew it out of the the hole it was fit into. Has anyone else had this problem?? Is there anyway to fix it so it doesn't happen again cuase it's kinda a PITA to get at. I also either wrecked the o-rings when I blew it out or trying to get it out does anyone know where to get the right o-rings??

Thanks
Mike

Will the LB7 intake runners and bridge fit on the LMM? That might be an easy solution if so. I've torn both apart and to me the way the LB7's have 1 solid cast aluminum piece that bolts on seems like it wouldn't have a problem holding the pressure vs the newer style.

No, the LB7 intake bridge will not bolt on to the LMM intake manifolds. You can do what Henry did and weld a bracket to the neck and bolt it to the bridge, or you can get a Van Bridge that has a pipe coming out of the top of the bridge instead of the front. The only problem is because of your twins, that would cause a problem with your twin piping.

I know the bridge won't bolt onto the manifolds, but will the LB7 manifolds fit on the LMM just fine? From there you could use the LB7 bridge if it works out, clearing the turbo inlet is the only possible issue I could see. But like you said, tig weld a bracket on the piece of tubing to bolt on and that should fix it.

Where would you bolt it to the bridge though?? I haven't looked at it that close but is there a place to bolt it on the bridge or would to have to make something on the bridge??

Yes the manifolds would fit, but why would you want to go backward? The LB7 bridge is more restrictive then the LMM!

Why not just use a LBZ van y-bridge with a few small mods? It's a lot less work.

Sounds like something is not stiff enough. The LBZ/LMM style can work just fine with large boost numbers without welding or bolting the neck into the y-bridge. I spent a fair amount of time coming up with simple yet effective brackets on my EGR Delete kit so this would not be a problem. I would look into fixing what you have befor you go changing everything around. JMO

Henry thanks for the pics

Did you just drill and tap the bridge?? Damn why don't I have all that room down there

yes just drilled and tap. Doesnt Nathans kit use a braket to hold it there with the twin kit.I have all that room because I removed all the egr crap.

No bracket for that pipe but his intercooler pipe has a bracket that bolts where the EGR cooler used to be.

FWIW, I never blew that pipe out of my LBZ and I ran 55-60 PSI of boost through it.

LOL I have been hearing that a lot lately about not blowing boots and everything else, but for some reason mine is and it seems like if I don't find a fix for this crap it will happen again.

I must just have a lemon
