Gm had issues with water getting into the filter area. They took a large piece of foil tape and covered the hole in the fender directly to the right of the air box... Not sure if thats where the sand and water got into yours...

That was stock!?! I thought it was part of the crappy aftermarket intake my truck had when I bought it. Ghetto.

If your going to play in your truck the only way to keep the air filter from plugging up is to get a "cold air" setup, They never plug up because it lets most of the sand and dust thru! :thumb: :roflmao:

I would be damn glad your filter stopped all that gunk from comin in and plugged its self up. The best filtering fliter out there is the stock paper one.

Try wrapping the intake openings with pantyhose. that should help keep some of the major stuff out. See guys with that on their intakes on all kinds of makes of vehicles up here in AK.

make yourself a snorkle for the truck or keep the stock intake if your gunna keep runnin it like that. these aftermarket cold air intakes will never stop as much dirt as the factory paper filter. There is a reason damn near every desert racer out there runs a CAT dual paper element filtering setup on their trucks/cars.
