Is anyone here affiliated with insurance? Or getting a great deal with their current insurance?

I just got my annual insurance statement and rates for 2013 and it went up $1,200 since last year. I got an 80 in a 65 speeding ticket in february of last year which is the only ticket on my record. Overall, I have a 12v cummins, my dmax, and a motorcycle. Full coverage on the dmax, liability only on the bike and cummins.

Spent 2 hours on the phone with my agent adjusting all my coverages and trying to reduce costs and am pretty much stuck at $2,200 annually. I kept asking the lady why it went up so much and if it was just because of my ticket but her incompetence refrained her from reading anything that wasn't on her computer screen.

Any suggestions?

Many factors go into it. Your age, the state you live in, amount/kind of coverage and a big one is driving record. Going to need more info if you want a specific answer. I can quote you if you are in IL.

I'm in California. I know more info is needed, figured I'd pm that to someone that could get me a quote. You only do IL?

Make your cummins your primary vehicle they in most states can only penalize you on your primary vehicle for things like age, sex, points, etc... and make ur full coverage vehicles pleasure vehicles. Saved me thousands the past 7 years. They always told me my rates would go down the older I got, surprise they never did...

What did you say about the amount of miles on each vehicle annually though? Its pretty obvious my duramax is my daily driver. The dodge probably only gets around 4k a year, the duramax 15k a year. Is it legitimate to say i out 3 times as many miles on my pleasure vehicle then i do my primary vehicle?

the only time they will check into the primary/secondary vehicles status is when signing up with a new agent. They looked at when I had my last inspection, how many miles were recorded, where it was "garaged" etc. if you have any secondary drivers on your policy they are also added to your primary vehicle automatically and depending on their record, they will affect your premium.

I pay $760/yr for my Dmax full coverage, $800/yr for my Harley full coverage. I have State Farm, no accidents / tickets EVER. My agent likes me so I still get my discounts for my safe driver class and good student from high school  I turn 25 this year so we'll see how much it goes down.

It also depends on the theft rate of all of those vehicles in your area. The higher the theft rate the higher YOUR insurance goes. Doesn't matter if it has happened to you or not. I'm about to be 38 this year and no tickets in the last ten years with the same insurance company. State Farm. And my insurance is still $115 a month for full coverage. All the other insurance companies I looked into wanted about $230 a month.

That one ticket shouldn't effect your rate that much or at all. Even a minor accident unless you exceed assumed policy loss. I'd go elsewhere for insurance obviously they have raised their rates as everything you have posted shows no reason for a almost doubling your yearly policy. What insurance company?

Your age and population effect your rate along with type of vehicle. Like others say select the cheapest insured vehicle as your primary. Put the Duramax on as pure recreation less then 5k a year miles. Also watch what you say for commute miles. Most commutes are less then 10 miles round trip from work or school! Wink,wink..... ;)

Mine went down when I turned 25... like $7/year. :spit:
Oddly, it went down more when I switched my primary vehicle from my 2003 Duramax to my 2013 Chevrolet Cruze Eco.

I've thought about that but a couple times now they have asked me for a pic of my odometer. I am also worried that If i do lie about it and i get in an accident and they see I have a lot more miles on my truck then I reported they might try to not cover me..? Anyone had claims where this was a problem?

I don't have a single claim. Never been in an accident. My insurance is AAA (auto club) which when i started my policy with them in 2006 was the cheapest by far. I've told them my commute is less than 2 miles, and the truck is primarily garaged at my parents house which is a very crime free neighborhood... My neighborhood is shit.

I got a quote from Geico yesterday which was about $150 less but was still way more than what I've paid in past years. It was somewhat encouraging though so monday I'm planning on calling all around and getting more quotes.

We have Kemper and in CA cost for a year with $500 deductible with full coverage on them all.

Casper $401
Wendy $902 listed as daily driver
Blue $398
Meanie $387
Spooky $1066 listed as daily driver

While Wendy went up some. I'm saving almost $1500 a year on Spooky.

We also have our home owners with them.
