installed steering shaft, still have the annoying sounds

ok, so i threw in a new steering intermediate shaft in the 05 last night in hopes that it would take care of the vibration/ thudding sounds that come from the steering wheel while going over say a rough road or something. it didnt solve the issue.. i have replaced the ball joints on the passenger side, but not the driver side yet.

what would yalls opinion be? could it still be the bad ball joints on the drivers side causing this? or is there another steering shaft i need to check out?

Did you check the idler and pittman arms real good for any wear?

There is a bearing in the end if the steering column that goes bad ilk seen I can find the article was reading.A Chevy tech replaced his shaft and it kept rattling so he chased it down to this bearing and replaced it and now that's all he does instead of replacing the shaft he does the bearing to all of them.

My buddy works for gm and he fixed mine.underneath the dash there's a weird lookin ring that tightens up around the shaft and they slowly get loose. Take a little air hammer/chisel and tighten the sh*t out of it. Bet it will fix it:thumb:

Hmmm interesting mine has rattled and clunked for years and I'm just now at the point of getting annoyed with it lol. So ill need to buy this bearing and an intermediate shaft?

A lot of lower steering column bearings can be 'fixed' by tightening a regular hose clamp around the housing where the lower bearing is at.

No, haven't checked those yet. Will take a look when I go to do the ball joints.

I've heard of putting a hose clamp on it. Haven't tried it on mine.

Guys thanks for the help! I was able to find that the shaft was still loose from that white coupling where the shaft bolts to. I used a hose clamp and tightened it down, took it for a drive, and no more annoying clunk! Man wish I woulda known before, would have saved me 80 bucks LOL!
