Has anyone else come across a tool or a part that they found unique or innovative while they've been wrenching on a vehicle, or maybe read about it somewhere? If so, what was it?

I was reading a build thread over at YB, and came across these clamps:

http://www.gates.com/products/autom...ooling-system/hose-clamps/powergrip-sb-clamps

read another, and thought these hood pins were pretty cool:

I posted that in Jeremy's race truck thread, too.

As for tools, I've always had a lot of respect for Travis's injector puller idea:
http://www.duramaxdiesels.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31371&highlight=concrete+anchor
and his return line leak test idea:
http://www.duramaxdiesels.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36759&highlight=LB7+tool

Thats just a few things Ive found, but Im always looking for others. What things have you all found interesting like that???

Search for the sptools injector puller. I bought one, and it is by far the best tool for pulling injectors thus far.

Those gates clamps are nifty, but not as popular because they're not reusable. I think a couple heavy duty OEMs are using them.

Leaf spring sliders seem nifty.. I wonder how they would work on our trucks as a DD. I see a lot of jeep guys will but that's an entirely different rig for a different purpose

I think they would still work the same in our application. There is a lot of drag racing tech out there that we Dmax guys dont use.

I love my craftsman cable hose clamp pliers!!!!

Corey

I bought some craftsman hose clamp pliers a while back and didn't realize they only have one notch to latch them closed. The truck pliers usually have multiple nitches to choose how far closed you want them. Would make it easier sometimes being more adjustable.

I saw an idea for hose clamp pliers a while back. Take some needle nose type vise grips and slide rubber hose over each jaw then you got lots of adjustment and cheap if you already have a pair of the vise grip needle nose type in your tool box.

ive used needle nosed vise grips for years but they always like to slip off the ends when you need to work the clamp to get it freed up and off the hose. i used a pair of pliers the other day a friend has that have a groove in each end just for the clamps on our truck and what a difference that makes. i may have to make my vise grips into one like it

I can see where they would want to slip off because of the taper being the wrong way and opened up more on the end.
