Something to think about. Look into the cognito pitman/idler brace kit. Helps beef the stockers up so you wont have to replace them as often.

This is the kit. In the pic, you can see the pitman arm on the top with the cognito brace below it. Strengthens the arm/centerlink up so it doesnt wear the joint out so quick. They sell the supports that go on both the pitman and idler arms as a kit.

Also you can get the cognito tie rod and ball joint. It goes all the way to center link and is a beefy mo fo.

Otherwise Inner tie rod is around 40 and tie rod end is around 40 thats 160 in parts just for the tie rod assembly.

also all this is pretty easy to change yourself if you have tools, then just go get an alignment.

Its 2wd and not going to need all those parts. You only need to check the pitman arm. have them take the nutt off and count the master splines on the shaft should be 3 or 4 big ones out of all of them. The idler doesnt matter as much you will be getting the whole deal and it bolts to the frame.I have to go to the dealer tommorrow so I will double check the part #'s and the my prices for you and atleast you will have the part #s to get local of I will send you the parts at my cost and shipping. i will also get the prices thru my other wholesale warehouse to see if I can save you more money they will be splicer parts then Gm uses those also for repair work.

My 03 was 2wd and it definately needed something. Chad (alligator) saw it as well. So much slop in the idler/pitman that the center link would rotate an 1" + in either direction. Needed new tie rods (inner and outer), pitman and idler. Raced it 3 times. Rest of the time spent with a shit ton of weight behind or in it.

He wont need it for racing purposes but it will help strengthen the steering. That centerlink design puts a lot of load on the pitman/idler joints. Need all the help they can get. Just my opinion though....

I just dont see the need for it for what he will be using it for.I beat the hell out of my 01 2500Hd 8.1 4x4 and they were fine at 138,000 of heavy towing and rough riding and plowing.
