How much power can I make on a stock injector? At what point do you need to step up to over size?

You don't want to do more then about 500 HP on stock injectors. Above that number you really should go up in size. Of course opinions will vary

425-450 is pretty easy to get from stock injectors. It's the last 50-75 that stretches the limit on duration. 400 is a pretty "safe" number though

I guess looking at HP as the metric may be the wrong way to go about it. I would say PW and timing are more important. What numbers thay produce will not always be the same.

For me it's around 2800 PW and 28* or so. Beyond that I get scared.

Safe and doable are not the same. I think you can get 425-450 pretty safe but I think your risk goes up a lot faster above that

I've done lb7 injectors in a c4500 and needed no puller. I'm slightly concerned that the injectors could be rusted into the head. Northeast vehicle with rust.

A puller isn't a bad idea but it isn't a "you gotta have it to do the job" kind of deal.


As for injectors, like others have said buy them from a quality source. My shop carries a few different brands to try and suit everyone's budget for most parts but fuel system components are not a place to "save money". We typically use F1/Flux Diesel, Exergy, S&S, or Dans for injectors.


LDS also sells a great product so you can't go wrong there either.

LBZ stock is 365 horse. So you guys are saying you can only get an extra 35 horse from stock injectors ?

400 at the tires. I wouldn’t go past 2000 pulse if you like your pistons, sure multiple people get away with much higher pulse but there’s more risk.

My son had this thing tuned. He ran it on a dyno at a truck pull or a fair and it put down 550 hp and 1050 ftlbs. Is this a bullshit dyno run or is that possible?

So I'm seeing a 20% off coupon to order from auto zone online. Genuine bosch remans for 300.00 each lifetime warranty. Seems pretty hard to beat. But I might be better off with some over sized injectors. I need to build my trans as soon as possible and truck is going to body shop for work too. I cant spend 5k on injectors at this point.

Will I be safer or less likely to blow the motor with oversized injectors. My gut says I will just end up at the limits of the stock turbo making more power and then bigger turbo and boom it will break if it lasts that long lol

If you keep it down and use larger injectors then yes, it should be easier on the engine. The tune needs to accommodate the injectors to reduce PW and timing to make them safer. All else being equal, 400 HP on larger injectors is better than 400 on stock

Just buy the AZ replacements and leave well enough alone. Just tell your tuner to keep PW and timing in a reasonable range.
Until you actually build the trans to handle the power, adding a lift pump, exhaust and tune will get you to about 500rwhp, which would make a very fun street truck for you. You shouldnt need any other mods at that power level.

I got the injectors Saturday. Spent a couple hours on the passenger side got those 4 changed out. Moved on to the drivers side and had 2 hold down bolts the were seized in. I hooked up enough wiring for it to run again and ran it till the engine was hot. Went after those stuck hold downs with spray and worked them back and forth snapping and popping quarter turn at time. Got them both out. The only injector and the driver side that was not stuck was 8 in the back. The 2 middle ones had leaking copper washer and a bunch of black death carbon build up holding them along with corrosion above the o ring. Ended up cutting a fitting off an injector line and welding it to a slide hammer to get 2, 4 and 6 out. Called local dealer to get new line and they had no clue told me a week to get one after i gave them the part number.

I believe you can also get those injector lines from LDS. I think they sell new and used ones. Maybe give them a try. And also don't forget to replace those hold down bolts so you can get proper torque on them and not have them leak like you saw

I have the line and new hold down bolts ordered from LDS hopefully have truck running like it should soon.
