Just surfing the net looking at several shops that sell injectors..
My question...I got on exergy's site..why is there such a big price difference between buying(say 60% overs) at a shop vs just sending them to exergy to have them done yourself? Aside from the downtime I guess...am I missing something or maybe I'm reading their price schedule wrong??

Exergy quoted me right around $1650 to send my injectors to them and flow them to 60% over. That's hoping mine are still good.

If you buy new injectors from them you don't get charged the initial cleaning and inspection fee.

http://www.exergyperformance.com/docs/exergy_services.pdf

Step 1 $50 x 8 = $400
Step 2 $90(I believe per injector but could be wrong)
Step 3 whatever size over you decide to go
Step 4 $728 for used or $546 for new/ reman
Step 5 is for any addition cost

Add that together and that's what it'll be. It's confusing to read at first but it'll come to you once you understand it

Or you could just call them and ask. That's what I ended up doing to make sure.

mine were right in that ballpark too, the price difference is usually the fact that you're buying New injectors from someone else vs reworking the injectors you already have. and most other places don't flow balance their injectors either...

This..I read over it and was comparing prices to shops...looks like its a better way to go for sure! What's the turn around on 8 honed to 60%?

It gets expensive when you do it "the right way" and buy Bosch injectors new, then send them to be punched and flowed by exergy.

Damn their price went up. A few years ago Gregg quoted me 1300$ and from everyone else it was 1500$. Inflation sure is a bitch

Well thanks for making me feel better about the price :roflmao:

Good thing my lly injectors have around 75k on them. Hopefully they're good when I send them in to get them punched out to 100% over.

Has anybody ever just had tips done and swapped out tips yourself? I did my first set myself from dipper and were fine and still being used in another truck today. Would be a lot cheaper to just swap the tips

I'm sure lots of guys have. I had a set of 75% II tips I was going to use but decided to sell them. With as much as I'm putting into this motor build. I'd rather have mine gone over and know exactly what they flow.

Knowing that fueling is one of the biggest factors in making power in a diesel. I'd hate to swap tips and have something go wrong and crack a piston.

I tried it on an LBZ at my buddies request with questionable results. The truck hazes like a mofo...

lb7s are a pain to just do nozzle swaps because you risk dirt/rust coming out of the lines when you remove them. lb7 tips are a lot easier to swap because you don't worry about loosing the puck

iv swapped lots of nozzles from George and the key to lly-lmm is NOT losing the puck. To pull the injector up slowly watch that the puck stays in the body. If you lose it, its gone forever and the injector runs wide open. they are also 1/64th the size of a penny. The first set you can be nervous about but once you get it your good!

I swapped tips. Stock to 80% overs from extrude. Run good but little smokey.

I had this done^ with great results so far. Exergy 60's on my stock bodies. Then sent to Scheid to be flow tested and have return rates checked.

Why pay to have your injectors tested? If they hone them all and then find a bad one when balancing wont they just install the tip on a new injector finish balancing and charge you for the new one?
