Injector's Replaced 5 times

I've got a good friend looking at a 2002 LB7, it has around 270,000 miles. Henry gave me the information for a VIN check and it showed the injectors had been replaced 3 times under warranty. The information my friend got from the seller has 2 other sets being replaced elsewhere. So the injectors have been done 5 times. He's flying out to Missouri to look at it but I couldn't think of why it would go through injectors so badly. Just looking for thoughts/opinions on why it would eat injectors. I've heard of 3 sets on 300,000+ mile trucks but not 5.

I wouldn't buy it... IDK why some eat injectors more than others but the ones that go through multiple sets seem to be more prone to going through even more sets & I sure wouldn't want to foot that bill, at least not very often. That's just my $0.02 though.

I would agree and pass on it. The only thing that I can think is poor fuel quality or contamination.

It was a company truck so I wondered if they were using a contaminated tank. He's going to look it over and make a decision but the injector history doesn't seem to bother him that much. Makes me nervous but didn't know if someone could explain another reason it could be going through so many.

Depends on the price.:D

x2; Mine had been through a set, another half set, and two individual injectors before i bought it, but the PO had kept good service records on it and it had started eating injectors at 140,000 miles. He said the dealer wouldn't cover the last one under warranty. It just hit 189,000 miles and I had another one go out, so I replaced the whole set. Time will tell if the 2 micron filter, lift pump, and 2 stroke oil will help these last longer, but for a few grand below wholesale on a super clean truck, what was I supposed to do?

How does one mess that up enough to damage the bodies?

The cracked in the first 3000 miles 2 were never tight (barely fingure tight fuel was leaking/spraying out of the head and it left the dealer that way so much for test drives) the rest were obscenely tight, the loose ones had the cracked body I would assume vibration. I have been present for the last 2 sets put in just to watch and help where I can, perk of knowing the service manager

On a side note the dealers here do NOT replace the injector cups, when doing injectors, IMO this will lead to premature injector failure so that could be the deal with the truck the OP is inquireing about.

I would throw a frame rail filter on the truck for shits and giggles

That'll be the first thing on the list. I'm really thinking since it was a company truck it was probably filling up off a contaminated transfer tank. Just a hunch though, no real proof.
Depends on the price.:D

$8500. Truck is super clean for the miles, rebuilt trans and transfer within 50,000 too so that's a plus.

It was in Kansas City. Thanks but he flew out, looked at it and left without the truck. It had injector codes and was running rough from what he told me. This was after the owner had told him there was nothing wrong with the truck on the phone. The search continues for him, just $700 lighter after all the travel. That's life I guess.

I been looking on CL and saw a few in the area for cheap. But I have no limit on miles I will drive to look at one and came up with a big list. 2500-3500 ccsb for 2500 and cc on the 3500 4x4's. Was looking at reglb but gave up use what I have to race and pull. If you find something in this area I don't care to go look at it check it with efi live video the truck running test it what ever for you.
