with my current setup i can't build a tune a tune that makes it run right, tried a couple other peoples tunes and they got rid of some of the rattle but none of the smoke. the truck hazes/smokes anytime im in the throttle enough to accelerate, idle is clean. even wide open with stock pulse width making 60psi its still smoking. egts cruzing are pretty warm also.

my question is are these nozzles just too big for a daily driven truck with the other parts i have at the elevation? also i will be moving to Denver in a couple weeks so i know the problem is going to get worse. Is this something that can be tuned but take a ton of time or am i better off stepping down to smaller nozzles

Bigger nozzles aren't going to run as clean as the stock one and have that kick in the ass that you bought them for. I'm sure elevation has a little to do with the problems you are having. I'm at sea level and if I get into the throttle much I will get some smoke or haze until the turbo cleans up the fuel. My small tune runs pretty clean. It will puff a little until it lights then it is clean enough that I can't see it in the mirror. Also there isn't any rattle. if you like you could send me your tune or one of your better ones and I will make a few a changes and see what happens.

I might take you up on the offer I appriciate it.

They would be ok if they ever cleaned up but if I'm in the throttle whatsoever it's smoking really not sure why these turbos would ever not be able to clean up the smoke of a stock tune?????

You pry have to go less pusle even than a stock tune due to them being that big . I was always under the assumption that you cut the stock tune back by the precent of the nozzle as a base starting point for the tune . But I'm no tuner just trying to help

You could use the percent over and cut back PW by that for the starting point. Example would be stock WOT PW at 3200 and say a 60 over set would have a 2000 PW to have the equal amount of fuel at the same pressure. Then with your turbos you would need more than that to feed them enough fuel.

A 1500 max PW tune on 100% over injectors should not be smoking at 60 PSI on your turbo setup. A stock turbo will clean up an 1800 PW on 100% overs and only have a healthy haze on a 1900 PW.
This is a little over 1900 PW on 100% over injectors with plenty of rail pressure and a stock turbo on fuel only. Where it starts to clean up in the middle of the pull is about as heavy as it ever smokes on the street on that tune and on smaller tunes it doesn't smoke at all at full boost (32-34 PSI) and WOT.

The 100% over injectors I have gotten from Exergy and tuned for are a challenge but the owner of the LLY shown in the above video lives at 4000+ ft of elevation and travels to up to 6000 ft of elevation without any smoke or EGT issues.

It would be worth it IMO to pull your injectors, sending them to Exergy and have them tested for proper spray patterns, return rates, flow, balance, and calibration. They would be able to tell you if you have any bad bodies, any injectors that won't fully shut off, or any that the flow rates are way out under certain pressure and PW parameters.

I would also be checking for other causes of high EGTs and smoke such as boost or drive pressure leaks. I don't see an intercooler in your signature and have personally blown one out at 60 PSI.

i have a banks i/c not that it really matters.

i will almost refuse to send my injectors off, why? because i know what they will say, nozzles are junk bodies are bad etc. That is how they make money so i will have to buy new injectors and have them flowed on top of the cost of them checking my current injectors.

Why would a company do such a thing? Many have sent used injectors in without needing new bodies?

I send injectors to Exergy all the time for testing, everything from stock to 100% over and they have always treated me fairly. One guy with an LBZ had GM diagnose 2 bad injectors after getting bad fuel, we sent in all 8 for testing and sure enough 2 completely failed the tests, but the other 6 were not far from failing so they tore them down and took magnified high resolution photos of the damage to the ball and seat area and sent them to me and asked if we wanted to replace only the 2 that failed or all 8. Using the pictures of the damage and a fuel sample from the filter the customer filed an insurance claim due to the "incidental" damage from bad fuel and got all 8 injectors replaced at no cost to him; Exergy also discounted the testing they had done to help the guy out. Had a similar incident with a Cummins except that after testing and inspection they recommend only replacing the 2 that Dodge had told the customer were bad, so with the money he had left over he decided to go 60% over. Sent in a set of Extrude Hone's 100% over tips and Exergy said that the spray patterns actually looked great and they only had to do some slight honing to get the set of tips balanced before putting them on the bodies we had sent in and then balanced and calibrated the set all for a very reasonable cost.

With shops like SoCal Diesel, Danville, All Season, myself, etc who would call them out on BS, Exergy relies on their honesty and credibility to keep our business coming in. Having dealers that trust them and come back time and again is how they make their money - screwing one person to make an extra $1,000 and losing 5 customers that each spend $1000+ a week isn't a good business strategy. I'm sure you could call any of their dealers that are respected Duramax shops and get the same type of feedback on their work and honesty.

I definitely agree with Dustin. I use Exergy myself and find them to one of the best companies that you could ever deal with. They have always been timely respectful and professional.
